He and Rajnikant are the only two legends from South who could crossover the regional barriers and made it big in mainstream Cinema. Kudos to Jaby for being so respectable towards Kamal Hassan by not trying to pass his own judgements on him as it would be like pointing a flashlight to the sun! Kamal finished 8th grade in school. He was more interested in heightening his skills for movie industry. He learnt different forms of dances, makeup art, worked as assistant director in early years. He often visited the US to learn make-up art and movie related technologies. He has even worked as a make-up artist for Silvester Stallone in the movie First Blood.

13:50 , kamal Hassan didn't go to school he had a anglo indian tutor for some years who taught him at his house, he was acting in famous drama troupe for many years and in the late teen he learnt various dance forms then he became a choreographer to big movie stars in the 1970's and he acted in Malayalam movies for some years and started acting in the late 70's in Tamil movies within couple of years his movies became big hit and after that there was no stopping in his career till today.

In that young after his few films he went to school and also was playing in a drama troop, he learnt classical dance and at the age of 14 he dropped from school and went to work as dance assistant, assistant director, learnt music, learnt singing, to name a few... He was eighth dropout, then he as a joined a drama troop . then as adolescent he was in search of assistant director and ended of becoming a dance assistance and choreographed many super stars and giants in Indian cinema and then he became assistant director and finally became actor. He would often address himself as non revelent actor as he wished be a technician rather than a actor. he learned all kind classical dances and classical music when he was a small kid. There are lot that you all should know about him.

I am a big fan and also "If i said I am big fan of of Kamal Hassan, would be an under statement of the next millennium." To give you a context, look up the following (Kamal Hassan + Rajini Kanth (i am sure you know him)+ (Director) K Balachander)) and (Kamal Hassan + (Director K Viswanath) + Late Mr. S P Bala Subramaniyam). They are the closest artistic family of the South Indian Film. Kamal Hassan is a true Artist. Kamal hassan is legend. I can't compare anyone with him. But if he is going to politics he is not in my list anymore. Same happened for Chiranjeevia and now pavan kalyan and other superstars. Same goes for Rajinikanth if he is getting into politics. They can't do good in politics no matter what. Atleast now it's so hard for them to rule. Only NTR, jai Lalitha and few were successful.

This video doesn't even cover half the achievements of Kamal Hassan. He brought so many Hollywood technologies and techniques to Indian cinema. He taught so many cool ideas of film making to Indian cinema. He was a challenge to every Indian actor in every language. He was bigger star even in 1970s when so many Indian superstars just tried to set up their career. His movies were always ahead of time for Indian cinema that most of them was a flop at the time of release and was later celebrated as cult classics. Quentin Tarantino once said he got inspiration for animation in Kill bill from a Indian movie ,which is Aalavandhan by Kamal Hassan. He is the only actor in India who has more number of movies sent to Oscars as official Indian entry with 7 movies.

Its been answered before, to add to it, he was part of a theatre group after he stopped getting kid roles and then started to learn classical dancing. which lead to him working up the ladder to be a full-time choreographer in movies before coming back to act through his mentor Balachander.

Kamal had a difficult bar to cross -- Chevalier Shivaji Ganesan. Shivaji had acted in nine roles in black and white movie days ... only way to cross the bar and establish himself as Shivaji's heir is to act in ten roles :-). Jaby's description of the father is from the movie Mahanadhi, that movie is not for feeble hearted. It took few days to recover after seeing that movie -- i don't dare to see the movie or the movie clips. It is a master piece. Kamal had many many flops too... but he didn't stop experimenting. Sometimes he was ahead of his times other times it took 3 to 4 views to understand the story. Hats off to Kamal.
