Why is no one talking about cinematography?, Every frame is giving a authentic feel, natural lighting to the near perfection. Nowdays all the movie scenes are bombarded with lights and feels so fake and staged. Really 90s era cinematography stands apart.

I have a different opinion. Though many films are poor in TN, i would still prefer Tamil movies, because there is a good percentage of them coming with good serious subtle content. Unlike the loud Pushpa/KGF/RRR. Heck, even Beast seems to have made biggest opening in TN, even its such poor story. All just because of the hype and marketing... I would any day prefer Karnan, JaiBhim, Soorarai Pottru, above the recent so called Pan-India hits. In terms of the quality/story and the realism of the film, i dont think Pushpa or RRR can be compared to Nayakan. They are just masala commercial movies.

These kind of movies makes youngsters to move towards bad direction. They just want follow their heroes. I have personally seen many of my friends tries to do stunt reels inspired by valimai. Instead of making this kind of film our industry can make films like sarpatta, jaibhim, kadisi vivsayi, anbesivam etc..

This scene is very much inspired by Francis Ford Coppolas The Godfather. Like Coppola, Maniratnam has made heavy use of shadows while filming. So in most of the scenes Kamal Hassans face is shown in half shadow and half light as it denotes duality of his personality between good and bad..

@@sauravdagaSDaga1984 The smuggling with the salt packs drowned in the sea is ripped off from Sergio Leone's masterpiece 'Once Upon a Time in America' which was released in 1984. Also, the bit with Velu / Kamal saying he will bring out the goods over another established crime boss is from 'Scarface' which was released in 1983. While 'Nayagan' owed a great deal to 'The Godfather I & II' and 'Once Upon a Time in America', it is a pretty good film in its own right.
