Interesting mic technique by Tommy to create a lot of the feel of the opening vocals. He moves the mic closer and farther, to change the sound quite interestingly. A lot of singers just use the mic for amplification, but he has an understanding of how to create certain effects by moving the mic.
Elize and Alyssa were the backup singers for Kamelot on the tour they did with Nightwish in 2012. On the infamous night Anette Olzon felt too ill to perform with Nightwish, Elize and Alyssa stood in together (along with the audience) for a one of a kind Nightwish show. Floor Jansen took over from Anette a few nights later.
Fabulous reaction! Elize and Alyssa also sang on the album. I do wish Elize's beautiful choral vocals were higher in the mix. Elize was actual considered by Nightwish to be Tarja's replacement but they decided she was to young (I think 18 at the time). My favorite Kamelot song is Under Grey Skies with Charlotte Wessels. Such a beautiful song and the live performance is stunning. Also love teh music video for Liar, Liar. You should also checkout one of the singles from their new album that just dropped recently. One More Flag in the Ground, Opus of the Night, and New Babylon (with Melisaa Bonny). They are touring in support of the album and I have tickets to see them in August here in the States with Battle Beast and Xandria. It is going to be epic.
Great reaction! I'm in a similar boat in that I listened to Kamelot years ago before Tommy came onboard and had a big gap before hearing them again. Until I saw these videos on RU-vid, I never even noticed there was a new singer in their newer albums XD Tommy was such an amazing replacement pick. These singers and musicians seem so humble and like such great people, they've got all my respect.
I was disappointed when Roy left. Now I still think Black Halo was their best written album yet, but Tommy has become one of my favorite vocalists of all time.
Just saw them last weekend. From the two opening acts (Xandria and Battle Beast), it was the best live performance experience I've had on every level. And I've seen many of the greats live from Maiden to Dream Theater.
If You want to check out more from Tommy, I'd recommend "The Light" by his other band Seventh Wonder or one of his songs from Ayreon's Transitus album. He's simply a masterful singer.
If you’re gonna do more Ayreon, may I suggest Hopelessly Slipping Away. It features Tommy and a lesser known artist Cammie Gilbert from the band Oceans of Slumber. They really don’t get enough recognition but are obviously good enough for Arjen 😅
"haven't watched anythign live" I am in this crowd somewhere. And I have been to alot of live shows from kamelot. Still miss Roy, but yeah Tommy was the best next thign and reallt fits the role.
