I feel like this set's design is kinda elegant inasmuch that so much of everything going on in it kinda compliments each other in spite of the clashing "Modernity Vs. tradition" thing it has going on. The Sagas happen to usually be evasive bodies on the other end that let you get in for Ninjutsu and then recast the saga, Ninjas happen to also be artifacts for the artifacts matter stuff or have ability counters when they enter, or reconfigure creatures can help with that, which then modify things along with the various auras like the black one that's also a removal spell. with how much incidental looting there is along with channel, it's so easy to just like... run stuff that have artifacts and enchantments matter, modified matters, graveyard synergies, all while not sticking to your strict draft archetype. It kinda was fun watching the LRR PPR and seeing Grahm Stark have what was effectively a goodstuff pile with all of 1 vehicle. it was legitimately more of a Ninja Control build then anything.
@@futurez14 I’m an owner of some very expensive cards that I got for very cheap 20 odd years ago til today. You go ahead and decide what you want. I call this investing
Looking at how Kaladesh played out, aggro. It seems like the artifacts like vehicles are to enable the aggro strategies and the enchantments side of things provide incremental advantage for control decks.
The existence of strong vehicles in a format usually favors aggro decks and combats control decks because vehicles make it much, much easier to play around creature board wipes.
I can't help but feel like Black/White is going to be an underpowered deck in the format. Green/White just needing enchantments and Blue/Red just needing artifacts seem much more streamlined and like they'll be more consistent. Not to mention I feel like Red has more good artifact stuff than Black, and Green has more good enchantment stuff than White, so it's kind of trying to work off the worse parts of each of the artifact and enchantment decks. Which is a shame because Black/White is my favorite color pair.
For the Black/White deck payoff you forgot the 3 mana 3/2 common rat Samurai. It gets useful keywords if you have enchantments and/or artifacts, and most secret thing of all it benefits from the white Samurai attack alone abilities! Super sneaky... like a rat.
I'm going to the kamigawa prerelease on saturday, and it will be my first time doing sealed. I know it's different from draft, but as someone who usually only watches your top 10s, I'm really glad I have this resource to get an in depth look at the set with helpful commentary!
So...I feel like Samurai aren't really going to do that well, since it kind of feels like if you have all those creatures out to gain the ability from only swinging one of them, you'd be better served by just, you know, swinging out if you're in a position with a large number of those on the field at once?
yeah, exalted and pseudo-exalted stuff has never really been the most 'successful'. I am assuming the plan is swing alone to build resources/get ahead, then go for the all out attack when your in a position to do so. It'd be nice if there was an easy way to get trample on a samurai to make attacking with one single super-buffed samurai not just asking your opponent to chump block.
I feel like it's, conceptually, an anti ninja measure. You attack alone and gain value, while having plenty of blockers to keep a lookout for ninja so they have a hard time gaining value out of ninjitsu. ... But I am also concerned that's not really enough, against ninja or even more against the rest. We will see. RW is probably going to be just aggro where sometimes you weigh an attack alone upside, rather than attack alone being the default.
@@therealHLY I think the main issue is if they have something that's indestructible, or has a reoccurring source of death touch, since attacking alone means you'll still get those other effects, but without an in color source of trample or evasion, it's just asking to be blocked. Also, why is there no vehicle Voltron deck in Kamigawa? How could they possibly miss that opportunity?
With Enthusiastic mexhanauts ability does it just lower the casting cost or can It lower the ninjutsu cost too? I know it’s a ability of the card so probably not. Just wanted clarification.
Same. I generally like the playing style of Blue the best, and probably will in this set. But I'm just not excited about the cyberpunk theme - which is especially strong on the Blue and Red ends. I may lean toward Green-White for mostly thematic reasons.
i feel this time BG is about enchantment graveish/recursion stuff i mean Gloomshreiker is an enchantment after all and Twisted Embrace is excellent with Goethermal Kami
Green theme is enchantment. Black has ninja/ artifact+enchantment combined Green black theme is Value/Two for one. for example Raise dead + 2/1 menace, removal and +1/+1, Return a create + return an enchantment.
Wait so the land enchantments like “Crackling Emergence” count as a “modified” creature ? I guess the enchantment that actually animates the land itself counts as the modification. ?
An interesting thing about Satoru, (and Im not saying its a good strategy but its a fun, interesting one) is that you can play whatever massive creature you want, even if out of colors and just get it into play with Satoru.. Were you going UB Ninjas and opened a Green massive dragon? You can play it.. you'll probably lose more games than you win by doing that but hey, it will feel glorious if you pull it off xD
You can kind of sort of count Satoru as fixing in those situations, but yeah, if your mana can't also decently support casting whatever bomb you have, it is pretty dangerous!
Black Green also has access to Reito Sentinel, Spring Leaf Avenger, Unforgiving One, and Junji. You can splash blue also with a common dual land and get access to Tamiyo. Not sure why this was missed.
It's so hard to remember. Red-blue: artifacts: which inclues equipments, vehicules, and artifact creatures Blue-White: vehicles: which need to be crewed by small creatures Red-white: attacking with one creatures, which benefits from equipments Black red: equpment? Red-green: modification, which inclues equipments, auras, and +1/+1 counters White-green: enchantments: which includes auras, sagas, and enchantment creatures Blue-green: sagas? Black-white: enchantments (sagas, auras) + artifacts (vehicles, equipment) I'm so confused.
@@NizzahonMagic Yeah the video was helpful. I wrote that comment before. I still feel like there is so much overlap between the archetypes though. Challenging to navigate.
Please please please please stop saying Nin JIT su. It’s Nin JOOT Su. It’s not just you, it’s a lot of people. It feels like nails on a chalkboard every time.
