The stormy and watery world of Kamino is the fifth of the 13 planets orbiting the Kamino old star on the rift of the Wild Space. The system is simply called Kamino, which is located between the Rishi fog and the main plane of the galaxy, approximately 70.000 lightyears far, west of the galaxy's middle.
This ocean-covered giant had 3 moons, the Korasa, and two others, with their names unknown.
The planet itself gets around its star within 463 days, and turns around its own axis within 27 standard hours.
Its atmosphere is type 1, so it can be breathed in without any aid for humans, and every other humanoids with similar body attributes. Also, the gravitational force on the surface is on a basic level. Newcomers will not experience major differences from a terrestrial planet with a basic gravity.
Its wildlife is somewhat more colourful than it would be expected of a planet-wide ocean. The ruling species were the intelligent Kaminoans. On the other hand, the main animal species were the Aiwha, which creatures are native on Naboo. It is believed, that the cloners spread them across the planet, because they frequently used these creatures as mounts. Besides these; countless sea animals, fish, giant mammals and other interesting beings swam underwater.
The planet's population was approximately 1 billion people, and this included only the Kaminoans. The immigrant humans, and Sullusteans were not included.
Main cities, that got a major rule were the following:
- Tipoca City, which was Kamino's capital
- Timira City, where - according to legends - Galen Marek was cloned
- and Derem City, which was the planet's oldest. Supposedly, its foundations existed even before the flood.
The people's leader was the royal council, which's prime minister - during the Clone Wars - was Lama Su.
Because of the planet's watery environment, the main imports were food and servant-, auxiliary- droids.
Furthermore, there was one thing they had a lot of: fish. They transported several million tons of fish as export, yearly.
The planet itself was under the authority of the Kaminoan species, who did join the Republic. It's more and more interesting, that they were hardly known by anyone in the prequel trilogy... but we shouldn't get upset on everything.
After the fall of the Republic, implicitly, they became part of the Empire, against which, they did rebel.
Following these events, they were members of the Zann Consortium, the New Republic, and the Galactic Alliance too.
From these, only the New Republic belongs to the Canon, but even that isn't sure, that Kamino was a member of the New Republic according to the Canon.
Approximately 19.000 years before Yavin, a dramatic climate change occured in the world of Kamino, which had some solid surfaces too, back then. The planet's huge glaciers melted over few hundred years. As its effect, the planet was flooded with water. This was followed by heavy storms, which had bulldozed every little dry land in their way. By their special attributes, Kaminoans survived the great flood, which destroyed their planet's surface. But their species had gotten into the brink of extinction, so they started to use cloning, and began to build new cities on the water-surface.
During their history, very few people knew about the location and the very existence of Kamino. Until BY 4500 even the Republic didn't know about Kamino's existence. Just maximum some Jedi did. In 3996 before Yavin: after, actually during the destructions of Ossus, beneath the ruins of Derem City, huge amounts of art treasure were hidden by Qalsneek, the Dellatian Jedi Master.
Not so long after the Jedi civil war, the kaminoan kyber weapons were used galaxy-wide, however, most of the users refused to talk about the true origins of the weapons.
To sum up, Kamino and the Kaminoan species were true survivors. Until the Clone Wars, they pulled through countless wars, huge cataclysms and many other things.
