The Kamov Ka-27 (NATO reporting name 'Helix') is a military helicopter developed for the Soviet Navy, and currently in service in various countries including Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, China, South Korea, and India. Variants include the Ka-29 assault transport, the Ka-28 downgraded export version, and the Ka-32 for civilian use.
The helicopter was developed for ferrying and anti-submarine warfare. Design work began in 1969 and the first prototype flew in 1973. It was intended to replace the decade-old Kamov Ka-25, and had to have identical or inferior external dimensions compared to its predecessor. Like other Kamov military helicopters it has coaxial rotors, removing the need for a tail rotor. In total, five prototypes and pre-series helicopters were built. Series production started at Kumertau in July 1979, and the new helicopter officially entered service with the Soviet Navy in April 1981.
The Ka-27 has a crew of three with a pilot and a navigator both installed in the cockpit, and a sonar operator installed behind. It has a four-leg fixed landing gear. The Ka-27 is equipped with two lateral buoys, that can be inflated in the case of a forced landing on water.
The Ka-27PL anti-submarine version is equipped with a radar, and either a dipping sonar or a magnetic anomaly detector. It can also carry either up to 36 sonobuoys, or a torpedo, or between six and eight conventional depth charges, or a single nuclear one. Ka-27PLs generally operate in pairs as hunter-killer teams.
The Ka-27PS search and rescue helicopter can carry 12 folding seats or four stretchers in its cabin, and is equipped with a 300-kg winch. Its fuel capacity is greater than that of the Ka-27PL (3.450 L against 2.940 L).
Ka-32 variants, e.g. the Klimov-powered Ka-32A11BC, have been certified for commercial operations throughout the world, notably in Canada and Europe. The Ka-32 has been certified for the newer Klimov VK-2500PS-02 engine.
Hope you enjoy!!

Especially the vibrations are amazing, gotta keep maintenance crews busy. It's weird because I've seen no reports of this issue on this helicopter. Might be QC/corruption issue? (all KA-52s are produced in a single factory)Or simply that 27 doesn't fly as fast as the problem only appears at high speeds

I've seen videos of these helos lifting electricity pylons to the top of mountains on YT. Because all of the engine power goes directly to the main rotors, and isn't shared with a conventional tail rotor (which uses 25-30 of the engines power on a trad ditional design), it has incredible lifting power.
@flexinclouds

I feel like also having twice as many propellers probably helps with extra lift right?
@Meyer-gp7nq

@flexinclouds not as much as you’d think, the engines still have as much power as they otherwise would, only now 100% goes to lift rather than 70-80%

I was an old Huey Crew Chief In the U.S. Army from 1988 to 1996 and a desert storm veteran. I have gotten to look at KA-27 at several air shows and at a russian airfield. This thing is built like, like most russian hardware it has to be rugged and able to be maintained by tractor mechanics. I actually turned down a flight on one because I really didn't like the way it was maintained.

How do you know how Ka-27 is built like? Did you have chance to check its internal design, engines, mechanics, avionics? You judge only by its external look? By the way Huey does not look like top elegance and at least not more elegant than Ka-27 and Huey really look like flying tracktor and I guess you dont' have to be spaceships mechanic to maintain it. What else Russian military hardware can be maintained by tracktor mechanics and how did you check that? Tracktor's mechincs is lowest league among other kinds of mechanics because maintaining of tracktors is simple and easy? I am not mechanic but I am sure that counter-rotating blades with two engines requires pretty complex mechanical design and maintenance.

The exact name is Ka-27PL. Initially named as the Ka-252PL, the variant is actually referred to as the Ka-27. The series version serves as an on-board submarine fighter helicopter. For this purpose, it is equipped with search radar under the nose, extendable diving sonar in the stern, tow-MAD under the stern boom and weapons in the bomb shaft. There is also the Ka-27PLM, an improved variant with newer sensors and more powerful turbines for the drive.

The Russians do have an aircraft carrier, as well as many helicopter equipped destroyers and frigates as well as naval auxiliaries, so are therefore not disadvantaged in any way. As for "Aircraft Torpedoes" and "Missile Torpedoes" you may have just called them "Torpedoes", which along with depth charges, can be nuclear armed. During the Cold War US, UK and Soviet French and Chinese Helos could deploy nuclear warheads dropped from helicopters or fixed wing aircraft.

Russia also got a lots of landing ships equipped by Kamov helicopters and also these helicopters work for anti-submarine purposes of all naval bases.

Russia has the worst aircraft carrier of any that are in service globally, it has had the lowest availability rate during its whole career. Additionally it’s been plagued by accidents and breakdowns it is without doubt an unlucky ship that has needed a tug to keep it company when deployed.

@@robertpatrick3350 You lie. That carrier is not bad at all. One of the best in the world. And it fulfilled all tasks and made more job in Syrian conflict than any other western aircraft carrier. Besides, carriers became obsolete in 50s since anti ship missiles came to place. So, Russian carrier is in deep modernization for 3 years already. Does it affect anything of Russian military potential? Not at all. Carriers basically are useless. Them sometimes can be useful if country has remote islands or needs to scare off 3d world country tribes. Even USA does not use carriers at all. During their aggression against Libya , 0 carriers were involved.

In B.A.T.S. I put 30 rounds with the 20 MM into the cockpit only hitting the side bubble will take out the Mi 24 sending it into a uncontrollable tail spin

Never been on a chopper. When are they going to invent a chopper that can dive into the water and go submarine mode? 🤷 I'm waiting...
