Winer of Best WNY Student Film - Buffalo International Film Festival 2017
Winner of Best Animated Short - SUNYWide Film Festival 2017
My senior capstone at SUNY Fredonia. This was a year's worth of blood, sweat, and tears, and quite a few all nighters. This was from a story I first heard about in high school, and I knew immediately that I wanted it to be the subject of my senior thesis. I hope you enjoy it!

DESCRIPTION:
In 2002, in the Samburu National Reserve located in Northern Kenya, a strange thing occurred: a lioness was seen lying next to a baby Oryx antelope. Predator and prey side by side; it gathered the attention of many. They named her Kamunyak, meaning "the blessed one". Nobody knew exactly the reason why she kept vigil over the calf. Some called it religious divination, calling it a real life allusion to the lion and the lamb; others saw it as a cat toying with its prey. Some said she may have been filling a hole in her heart after the loss of a cub, or even her entire pride since she was a lone lioness, another unusual occurrence.
For my interpretation of this true-to-life story, I've showcased both the good, and the bad that this unusual relationship creates. The little calf, separated from it's mother, has no milk and no nutrition. Kamunyak spends all her time watching over the baby Oryx and doesn't hunt, and prevents the calf from finding another mother antelope. On the surface the pair seems sweet and innocent, but the reality was they were both slowly killing each other. Nevertheless, reports say that Kamunyak went on to adopt 6 other baby Oryx, but none lasting as long as this first calf.
