Jehovah's Witnesses were banned during the one party rule of Kamuzu Banda in Malawi. Here Kamuzu speaks about the Jehovah's witnesses in his own words.
Banda was a tyrant. I read the Amnesty International report on human rights under his government. Persecuting JWs was only a small part of his tyranny. This speech is a distortion of what he really intended. He wanted a totalitarian uniformity without any dissent. The problem with the JWs and others was being forced to join the only political party in Malawi - his political party. Even the Soviet Union at its height of power under Stalin did not make party membership mandatory. It may not have tolerated dissent but it didn't go as far as Banda. Under his reign a journalist could go to jail for not using his official title "Life President."
Jehovah's witnesses we are real followers of Jesus after hearing this l feel proud to be one of Jehovah's witnesses Jesus said my true follower will face trials and tribulations and my fellow brothers and sisters really they face trials and tribulations but Jehovah himself was really helping them we will face More trials and tribulations m so happy to see this and this made me to really strethen my faith that m in a right religious
Thank you Kamuzu for correctly pronouncing them as Jehovah's Witnesses, but l am happy you learnt a lot from these people for their belief in one God, Jehovah.Young Pioneers have disappeared but Jah keeps these peace loving people alive. Taxes they pay, Gvt is there to protect its citizens despite their religion and affiliating to a political party should, from a sane man, be optional rather a law. As we speak JWs are there in Malawi, but Kamuzu is sleeping in his grave. I don't know if everything that was said by Ngwazi about Jehovah's Witness was true. But i liked the part where he is referring to the need to recognize government, pay taxes etc. It doesn't matter to which religious affiliation one is, we all need government services in one way or another. Security, health care, transportation etc. What i don't like is the effect this speech had on our brothers and sister of Jehovah's Witness. People were victimized, others even killed.

Kamuzu was wiser . How can't pay tax while you living in the world where each and everyone pays taxes. Even Jesus christ pays tax . He correct them wisely.
Only when you read your Bibles then you would understand that Kamuzu was in line with Gods Word more especially where God mandated us to give to Ceasar his dues meaning that nobody is above the law, no matter who you are, you must pay your taxes
there was documentation at the Malawi Library, that the "Kamuzu" Banda was born in the United States in the south. Went to school in Europe. During the late 50s to early 60s they needed someone to govern Nyasaland. and the 'Real" Banda was killed. You can here the President's accent is nothing more tthan American.

Lies!!!!! Listen to that speech carefully before making foolish and baseless assumptions. Everyone who lived under his reign would attest to that Kamuzu believed in God. He attended church and read from the Bible on special occasions. JW was the only church that he disliked because of their beliefs.
shabir vadalia Yes indeed I remember when I visited Malawi in the 90s I was told the secret meeting of CCAP were disguise as Jehova witness. I remember my dad told me, in order to get an education he would say he was a 7 day Adventist knowingly he was muslim. Wise man. I miss Kamuzu. I hear the county has gone down.
+Spark916916 There were a lot of non-Adventist students that went to Adventist schools...they were only asked to go to all school and church functions while they were students...I don't think one had to lie to be admitted in school...but may be that's cause I was one already.

If you don`t pay tax you can not expect services from Government. For Christians that would be stealing. Are the Witnesses enjoying true worshipping or free worshipping. Judgement is for the LORD
You have the evidence that they weren't paying taxes. Is that the reason this man persecuted these people? I suppose we can except Hitler's charges against the Jews too. As for Malawi--You have a country, one party, you must have a party card; what do taxes have to do with that? Banda is dead, what about you?
I had a friend who was very bright in std 8 then in the mid 80s he got selected to Mzuzu Government Sec School - national secondary school but he did not go to secondary school because he was a JW. he did not want to buy a party card. Today i feel bad when i meet him he is just one of the people doing some unskilled work in town. he would have a doctor, a lawyer and accountant by now. what sort of religion is that then? very poor religion
