What a find. Rex in full flight during this golden age of footie. Rex was a customer in my business on Sydney Road Balgowlah and a true gent with lots of great recollections. Terrific to see all the icons of footy in this game
Brett Kenny was Wally's kryptonite. The one player who could go toe to toe with him in Origin. But together, and with Sterlo feeding them, they became unbeatable. And that doesn't even take in account the other legends around them.
@J G soccer is played by girls who dive.....in Australia it will always be a third rate televised sport.... get used to it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_AhkpOf6nSo.html
The Greatest Kangaroo backline, Ever. Case closed, case re-opened, and case closed Again. Kenny, Kenny Kenny, what a Champion he was, should be an Immortal.
Kangaroo tours were the pinnacle of the sport. I can remember watching matches way back when where the English supporters would stand and applaud Australian tries and skill. It was like they couldn't believe this is how the game could be played.
Wally Lewis was the ''Real Deal'' indeed , fiercely competitive , his ability to control a game was outstanding . Peter Sterling and Jonathan Thurston are the best halfbacks I have ever seen .as for the cages holding the fans in, League and Union fans can behave
Sterling, Lewis as the halves combination. Not many been better. It is great to see in this game old fashioned three quarter play with Kenny and Miles combining brilliantly.
GB did themselves in in the first half by trying to play dry weather football inside their own quarter. Still kept it competitive until halfway through second half. Lee Crooks singlehandedly kept it close, great player. Up against the greatest Australian side ever, they did well. I grew up idolizing Lewis so I never paid enough attention to Kenny, every try out wide by Australia, he either thru the last pass or was setting it up in other ways. If Lewis wasn't around Kenny would be an immortal, no doubt about it, the guy could do everything and had great pace. What an era, for GB also, they had 4 players in that side who could walk on to the Aussie side, no problem.
I grew up in Parra in the Kenny, Price, Sterlo, Cronin etc era. I always said Kenny was then and in my book still the greatest “natural” player of the game. His timing, reading and smooth execution just came so naturally to him. Awesome gifted player.
@@iamthebroker his timing in that first Miles try, he straightens up and as soon as Miles's man was turned in he passes it flat, straight on his chest. He's done it a million times, brilliant eyes up player. Lockyer reminded me of him when he was young, that gliding style of running and beautiful soft hands. I think Lewis suited the time a bit better, rough, more solid, but there's a slim piece of paper between them, and it shows how great they both were to play together the way they did on that tour. I was 8 in 86 but I've watched a lot of games from that era, the old NRL site was great, you could watch games from back then, now it sucks.
They were 2 brilliant player's in Thier own right Lewis was more team leader whilst Kenny was individual brilliant he was amazing I was 18 at the time now that's a team of brilliance
sterling feeding lewis and kenny is just magnificent with gene miles or meninga on the end of it. first time ive seen these blokes play a full game and i can appreciate there quality! cant do that watching highlights
The RL days before coconuts with exception of maybe Meninga hardly a single one to be seen. The RL juniors clubs in Sydney were mostly like that as well in the 80s complete opposite now. It was safer sport to play for Junior as well mainly due to not having 15 year olds in a 30 years olds body. Amatuers wanted to enjoy playing the sport not get killed or be decapitated in their child hood or teens.
@@jessiecuster3191 Those are my recollections spoken from heart. I have no interest in your idea of cool or being cool. nrl was no more woke back in days past than than any mans only club, even players thinly veil their prejudices, folua likely isnt cool either according to team woke I am sure most islanders thinking he's still cool. And if we talking about rl in nz completely different always and naturally more pc because was always Maori or islander sport in nz at every level nothing like Australia until last 20 yrs.
I'm a rugby union man, but I loved these titanic battles back in the 80's and 90's. It's a real shame that they have let test football wither on the vine. How good was this game, I'll take this over Origin any day.
Even though GB had some of the best players they've ever had, they just couldn't compete with the Aussie hard men who were just sheer class from 1 to 13. Such a pity the Ashes tours are confined to history now. Snif (((:
So true it was a good time for Australian Rugby league that's for sure this team inspired countless generation's to play the game just take a look at how many star's their are in this team
So great to watch a game of league with so many great players involved, now I just need to watch a hey hey it's Saturday vid and it's a perfect Sat arvo.
Bloody oath mate, shit this is a strong side. Crusher and blocker up the guts and Bobby Lindner backing up. O'Conner and Meninga out wide with the king and sterlo directing. Beautifull.
Brutal. High tackles and after the tackle stuff galore. This was the first League team I ever followed, converted from Union. Had no recollection how good Gene Miles was. But Cleal. CLEAL!!!!
Totally agree with everything Rex said about Snozz O'Connor. Always the unsung hero in Tests and Origins. Should have been made an Immortal years ago!!!
This was the Sunday morning 1 hour replay Rex Mossop would have been involved in the 1986 Melbourne Cup telecast in a link up from the UK with the Kangaroo tourists
Look at the crowd and compare it to the recent World Cup. It’s such a shame the sport fails to attract this amount of spectators these days, even in Super League.
You would too with Roach, Dowling, Cleal and Niebling waiting in the middle. There is no point in trying to make any headway against that lot. Better to run them round. Good tactic, though not particularly well executed early.
Brett Kenny best player ever, didnt that side have the King in it, why wasnt he 6? Because a better player was given 6, he was the God of the Immortals
