This is one of my earliest memories of watching Rugby League and in general of a team which I followed losing. I hadn't seen the footage since it happened and it's exactly how I remember it. Etched firmly in my memory bank is the feeling of utter despair, firstly as Martin Offiah sealed the deal and secondly seeing the Poms hanging from the rafters singing along to "We Are the Champions" at the end. Wild. Thanks for posting. PS I would have been 7, first-year playing footy, and as a small kid from Ipswich, Alfie's biggest fan.
@J G rugby league is the greatest sport on Earth with over 4 Billion fans and massively popular in over 240 countries including dependencies. soccer/football is only popular in 4 countries. Its a minority sport in the UK, France etc. rugby league will always be the number 1 sport in Australia
@@drainmudvayne27 You are actually Very Wrongfully Mistaken by claiming that Football (Soccer) is popular only in (4 Four) Countries but actually Football (Soccer) itself is the Real Football Code and besides it more popular Globally Worldwide Internationally THAN the Football Code of Rugby League & besides that another Football Code of Rugby Union is NOT Very Far behind Football (Soccer) as in other words meaning that Rugby Union Football Code itself is actually being played in a lot more Countries Globally Worldwide Internationally than the Rugby League Football Code itself of course. But even I do love Rugby League Football myself but Very Unfortunately & Very Sadly that's NOT the case of the Rugby League Football Code of being the Number (1 One) Winter Sport as such but actually it's Australian Rules Football as in Aussie Rules Footy itself as &/or is the real Number (1 One) Winter Sport through out of Australia of course.
@@user-we8ue9qy9l thanks for the 10 page essay lol, and if you had any brains you would know i just copied a clowns post and replaced rugby league for soccer... but cheers anyway.
@@drainmudvayne27 I was just only correcting you about all of Rugby Union Football is being played in more Countries THAN Rugby League Football as a real fact & Australian Rules Football being most popular Winter Football Code right here in Australia THAN the (3 Three) other Football Codes of our Soccer, & both of our Rugby Football Codes is also a real fact of course. Sorry I didn't know at all that you did copy another person's post of course. But all Very Good of course.
Platt was another level, Scofield showed his class and Steadmans kicking game was tidy. ET and Wishart had shockers and GB matched the Aussies in the forwards.
Good win to Great Britain, makes you wonder why Meninga took the kicks for goal when Rod Wishart was a more accomplished kicker? Make little difference to the score, just seems a little strange.
Steadman, Eastwood, Newlove, Powell Schofield, Harrison, Hulme. Not quite. And only two Wigan players scored...If Mcginty hadn't played for Wigan, would have never seen a GB shirt. Far better second rowers around at that time. Dixon, Fairbank, Eyres...
@@matthewhicks3155 you're not wrong. However it seems Mal Reilly went with established combinations. The Wigan pack as a unit was far ahead of what could effectively have been created using what were technically the "best" players. Got to admit though, McGinty had a storming game
