Hi Gary, Thanks for posting this! This was so great to listen to. I am actually the descendent granson of Michael Spero, which makes me the 3rd Michael Spero. I only came to know some of these stories until my teen years, but some details would of course be left out or forgotten. I had met a few authors in Kansas city that had written about the war, and the connection with the Spero’s. Super interesting, and thanks again for your insight and details!
My best friend from 1964 to present day is a Brancato. I don't really know a lot about their business but I do know his grandfather was murdered in Lee's Summit, Mo. My mom worked for a urologist that was treating Willie "the Rat" Comisano for prostate cancer and I can remember all of the bombings that were taking place in the River Market area, known then as the River Quay.
Awesome finally a new mob family I’ve NEVER heard about just google other mob families besides the ones every one already talks about especially the 5 families from NY and Philly area’s next google Out West if they have any family….👍😎 awesome video hope I find more fingers crossed 🤞
Good for you!! You profited from other ppls pain. It's not glamorous at all real ppl die and Famiglia divided. I can't blame you for making a buck on this but until you're on the inside looking out???? GTFOOH!!
The start of Genovese downfall. He thought that meeting would make him a powerhouse and instead he was made to look like a fool. Then Gambino and Costello conspired to expose Genovese on a drug rap and that led to his going to Prison where he died. It also led to Valachi coming out with all kinds of information that the media and public was exposed to and Hoover finally had to address the mafia. Costello got his revenge and Gambino became a powerhouse. Genovese was a moron like Gotti, Scarfo, Giancana, and Gambino was a genius like Costello and Accardo.
That’s a bit short sighted. Bonanno’s and Colombo’s and Genovese families were no idiots. Colombo double-crossed Bonanno and told Gambino his plans to kill him. Colombo set up his own underboss Franzese . Franzese found out ,Colombo was shot in public it was blamed on Gallo one of Anastasia’s killers. The other being Carmine Persico. Gambino used Gallo to take the blame for Colombo, Persico ascends to the top of The Colombo’s and Bonanno is sent to Arizona into semi retirement. In Arizona he let Galante run the family but he received huge profits for all the heroin the Bonanno family moved. They controlled the market. The other families cut them out of the lucrative construction profits the other families shared in through the commission. Now Gambino runs the commission. They control Philly who have a seat on the commission. The Genovese manipulate the murder of Angelo Bruno in Philly, put in Phil Testa whom they pretty much controlled giving Chin more power on the Commission. Testa gets blown up and they Put in Nicky Scarfo who ran Philly and Atlantic City. Bonnanos lose their commission vote finally after Donny Brasco infiltrated them. Making the Genovese the most powerful family in New York and on the Commission. Gambino is considered a genius and he probably was close. But all that war amongst the New York bosses strarted when the Chin shot Costello. Anastasia was murdered for Veto Genovese being sent to prison. What is not talked about is Sonnny Franzese being framed, it wasn’t the feds it was Colombo and Gambino. Who won the war? I have to say the Genovese family. Persico backed Franzese they were with the Chin and the Genovese. Big Paul got whacked and Gotti took over he tried to get the Bonannos back on the commission so he could control their vote. Now Tony Accardo was close to Angelo Bruno but he proposed the truce that gave the New York families Atlantic City and Chicago Vegas essentially guaranteeing Philly having the most power there and the Genovese by proxy. The Commission was making unbelievable amounts of money based on their bid rigging construction schemes. Paul Costallano understood that. But Chin Gagante was Vito Genovese’ main guy. Chin was loyal to him. He was a gangster. I believe he won the overall war and it was a war amongst several of the bosses for control of the commission.
You guys need to do more research, especially with regards to Apalachin, pronounced APA-LAKE-IN, NY. The home was owned by Joseph " Joe the Barber" Barbara and was set up to name Vito Genovese as the boss of bosses.
Yeah, I got onto that correct pronunciation in later podcasts. I am not the only one, remember Ray Liotta in Goodfellas pronounced it in the popular but wrong manner.
@@frankhamilton31 People pronounce it how it's spelled. If they're not from the area and have never heard it spoken, they'll sound it out like any other word, not to mention the word is nearly identical to "Appalachian Mountains" which is pronounced with a soft "cha" sound. Besides, there's no single way to pronounce a proper noun.
@Maison Bryce Thank you Mr Bryce, having lived through the era, I don't have much interest in the opinions of a youtube poster. Though I think it's funny that the front that was used as the bank, has never been mentioned, and is still in business today.
Life is not cheap!! The idea that the Spero brothers was attempting a coupe of the Civella Famiglia is a myth!! The fact that they were intelligent, charismatic, good looking and tough and loved by many was a key factor in why they moved against the Speros. Yeah I can't disagree with this ex-cop but he lacks the inside take!
@@GaryJenkinsMafiaDetective I'm thoroughly enjoying your videos and stories on the Kansas City Mob. It's hard to find stories on the smaller crime families, so thank you very much.
Dear Mr.@@GaryJenkinsMafiaDetective , very enjoyable stories; thanks for broadcast. But, ``we all have our little corruptions?!'' Really?! I don't think you can have ``a little corruption.'' All the old adages, such as, ``one bad apple spoils the bunch,'' and so on, would indicate that can't be tolerated, and is what is bringing down this country by the judicial branch.
@@quickchris10comcast don't think you really understand what I mean by "little corruptions" but thanks for your response and your appreciation of my humble podcast.
Dear sir, ``'just makin' sure. " I was just watching about some unsolved crime in KC; and I thought I remembered a lot of mob news out of KC, so I thought I'd search on ``Kansas City mob history,'' and so found your podcast. Your comment, ``you never know about the ins and outs of mob crimes,'' seemed to answer my question, that a lot of unsolved crimes could be linked indirectly or in some, odd way to the mob.
Who the fuck knew kanas city even had Italians let alone their own crime family I learned it when I first saw casino as a kid I was like wow Missouri has Italians ! Lol
