I'm a sixteen year old that never really cared for Kansas before I heard this. After hearing this, I have no clue how Carry On My Wayward Son or Dust In The Wind ever got so huge. I have so much more respect for Kansas now. This blew my mind
I agree, this is my fav Kansas song, you find that w/a lot of bands, 1 or 2 songs will define them by their radio airplay. I got really sick of hearing them but after listening to all their music & lettin aome time pass, I go back & listen to those 2 songs & can appreciate them as great songs. R.I.P. Robbie Steinhardt
As I write this, you are 27 years of age and I’m 63, nearly 64. I’ve been listening to Kansas and this song since 1977 ( years after it came out ). This is certainly in my top 5 if not top 3 of their songs. I can’t help but wonder, after you found out you liked Kansas, did you explore the earlier songs more?
@@LivinClean-p9e they were amazing in concert. Studio version, Masque & Left Overture my favs. I am 66 & don't plan on dying soon, so is it weird to go to a funeral for old lady & they play Icarus & Freebird? I don't care! This is prob my fav Kansas tune
The prog wankery on Masque is quite far off the level of leftoverture. The studio performance isn't amazing besides possibly the vocals but then especially the sound production is dry and brings the performances down. It lacks all the kind of nuances that leftoverture has. The live version of this song on Two for the Show is so much better than the studio version. Masque only showed the potential for what was coming but I don't like it. But the songwriting and melodies of this song is the best they ever did, I think.
the phenomena of mixing Classical and Rock with odd Time signatures mixed with great vocals is lost to most of the new Grunge punk schools , but these years of exporation of music by groups like Kansas,Yes,King Crimson,ElpGenesis, will be the greatest challenge to any musician, Id like to hear a group try this song
Kansas is a excellent band and don't let no one tell you any different. Sure Dust in the wind has been played alot of times but it's still a good song, and besides the point if anybody thinks that Kansas is a bad band then they can be quiet. Kansas has alot of good songs besides carry on way ward son, point of know return, and the famous and about everyone's favorite of all Dust in the wind.
Kerry Livgren whaling away on the lead and they show everyone else but him. No Dave on bass shown either. If it weren’t for Robbie passing in front of Dave you would never see him. The full concert is on video and it’s all the same. Whoever they chose to produce this video was some generic guy who didn’t know who played what. Kerry wrote this song!
Agreed on Masque...My favorite album was Song for America.. Some real scorchers on that album...Too bad it was one of the worst recorded studio albums I flat out have ever heard
Kansas is one of those bands that just got progressively worse after one particularly great album, Point of Know Return. From the first album to that album, the band was outstanding and getting better with every release. Then they just produced lots of bad material. Can't say what happened after so much awesome music.
@@bearmare9710 nah man. Drugs don't make you better or worse in terms of creativity. They might make you think differently, but not inherently better. Look at Bowie for example, his most experimental era was after he got off drugs
