Hang on, man - let me pick my jaw up off the floor….. Seriously, man, is there a word more astonishing than “astonishing”? Because that’s the only word for your talent! EXTREMELY well done, Sir!
Goosebumps at the beginning, tears welling up within a minute, the highest compliment I can give anything, simply bravo, blown away. This is not easy shit to replicate by any means of an imagination. Ridiculously great cover.
I'm a huge Kansas fan since I first heard Left Overture in 1976. Unbelievably great job with this cover. Superb vocals, man. Great harmony (with yourself!)!!!
Many "thanks" to those of you who were kind enough to lend your time and leave some humbling comments on the original posting. I wish I could have copied them over this one! Thanks for listening!... Drew
I've commented on other threads about Kansas being my favorite band-EVER. Musical intricacy, aggression, emotional expression, all with the highest level of execution. I have all their albums, and in fact just broke out "Somewhere to Elsewhere" again a couple days ago (I favor the original members version, and Dave Hope plays on a couple tracks.) As a fellow musician, Covering "Carry On" is one thing-it's something entirely different to cover one of their more complex arrangements like this song. If only you could find a group of other guys who could match your musicianship and cover ones like this live! Major Kudos, bro. I've watched as many of your videos like this I can find. Great work-I hope you find it as fulfilling to do as we do to watch...It's kinda like a "Magnum Opus!" (ahem)
Dude...Dude...Dude....how did you end up with that much talent? First off, you are singing Steve Walsh songs, and he is one of the greatest rock singers of all time. And you sing it well. Then, you pretty much nail the keyboards and arrangements. Kansas material is no easy task. Finally, you nail the intricate drum parts of Phil Ehart. Good job my friend!!!
Listen friend. You are extremely talented, and you are just fricking amazing. I think you should write your own songs and see what happens. I bet you will be surprised.
Brother!! you are Best! i love Kansas, and especially this song. and you are the first one that i ever know who can Cover their songs! and it's... Excellent! Great job, Brother!!
love it! hard song to sing...one of my favorites too!...another hard one is "No One Together"...die hard Kansas fan..its the only music i run too..accomplished marathon runner-many miles of Kansas Music..can't go a day w/o song or 2
When not watching the video and just having it play in the background, I have to say that you did such a good job hitting the way Steve would slide into notes, and your range timbre is so close to his. Again Good work Drew. I understand that Kansas' music is terrific on both vocals and instrumental parts, but which part primarily is driving you to pick a song to covers? Vocals or instrument? Just curious. Thanks.
I would say vocals. I need to be able to hit Steve's notes as a prerequisite. I wish had about 4 more notes in my upper range, lol! Keys are a consideration too since I'm not truly a keyboardist. I figure if I can eek out one good take then I'm good to go for a video.
Man, this was not an easy piece to take on, and not only am I impressed with your ability to cover it, I am am pretty impressed with the accuracy of your pads! I can't get ghost notes to trigger so articulately. Really nice control over those controllers, bro!
I will also add if Phil ever decides to leave Kansas, you could step in. Im blown away at this. How long did this take to do. What i love about Kansas is that there is so much going on their music is very busy. There is not a lot of air listening to them on Headphones is an eargasm.
When someone asks me my favorite band i always say there are far too many great ones to pick from. I could do a top 10 and Kansas are in it. Their music is so damn rich and textured its fantastic. I own a few of their cd's but i just made Two mixes to listen to when i do my Landscaping. On headphones they are even better. It is a shame what happened to Steve Walsh's voice i remember back in 2008 not having a clue as to what he sounded like. I checked out a live clip on youtube and my heart sunk. I didnt know Cocaine would screw your voice up like that.
When Phil and Rich leave, the band will be history or should be. The drumming and vocals in this cover are first class! I wished I could have lent him my Minimoog and ARP String Synthesizer it would have sounded a lot better.
Can't remember my original comment, but it was probably something like............SPECTACULAR!......... and BTW, Kansas is my favorite band as well. Carry on my friend! Len
@@RavenSky1013 There are more. Here is a link to my most recent one if you haven't already seen it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L3PY-Shb1Ds.html
Damn cuz.. I don't know where you're from , but I would live to join you and do a Kansas tribute band.. I play keys and sing.. that was a great job on one of my favorite Kansas songs.. you need some better keyboards other than your midi setup.. I play guitar on a Korg Karma.. hard to tell the difference between it and a real guitar.. still it sounded great.. tremendous job ....
It's amazing how talented you are. Get an agent or go on AGT or something, or just keep putting awesome videos on RU-vid. BTW the 70's called it wants its plaid sofa back lol jk
Thanks! Good eye too! Back when I posted this video (and a few others), RU-vid's encoder was crap and I had to manually offset the audio to get it resynchronized. If I remember correctly it was off by about 4 fps. Then, about a year or two ago, they finally got their act together and the audio properly synch-ed (which screwed my offset correction). Since that time, my newer videos (Miracles, Sparks, and Changes) are properly synced. I didn't bother re-posting the old videos because I didn't want to lose all the kind comments that so many have taken the time to write!
