Just saw them on 7/21/23 and hot damn they just kicked my butt like always. Yes only 2 original members but so what? The musicianship is grade A. These gentlemen play Kerry Livgren and Steve Walsh’s music ( and their own) the way it was intended. Ronnie Platt’s vocal delivery is outstanding. Billy Greer is an excellent vocal companion. Even if Phil and Richard retire I will ALWAYS go see Kansas.
Just amazing! Glad to see Phil back behind the drums. They never disapoint. The musician ship is the best there is .Waiting on July 1st to see the 50th tour.
Saw them in Glenside Pa, June 10! Small venue Keswick Theater, 1300 people. The faces change, the tradition remains the same! Eric great drumming the first half, Joe adds another dimension! They are just so damn tight! Great show!
Absolutely epic! Does any well-known prog band gig as much as Kansas? These guys are masters and we need to bear in mind that this was only Joe Deninzon's second gig with the band. Well done all!
These are all outstanding! Great to see Phil Ehart back playing the drums and his long time drum tech, Eric Holmquist has done a fantastic job covering for him while he healed up. Kind of cool to watch them swap.
Eric is a MONSTER drummer in his own right, and his filling in has given Phil the chance to build up his strength over time rather than take a chance on re-injury. Eric does not miss a beat. I saw them in Marion, IL back in April and he did a couple of double bass drum fills that were just mind-blowingly cool. And how about Joe Deninzon, the new violinist? He's doing an awesome job, too. The level of musicianship right now is every bit equivalent of what they were when most would say the band was "in their prime". I say their prime is right now, they're revitalized and firing on all cylinders! And, playing music from EVERY era of the band, too!
@@JonathanHiller We are in accord on all counts. Eric is simply outstanding and he is not just an adequate substitute but he is a monster as you say. I think it goes even further in that PE deliberately chose Eric to be his drum tech and backup if/when needed and ultimately the next drummer for KANSAS. Joe Deninzon stepping in and replacing Rags was a stroke of management genius from the 2 masterminds Phil and Rich and I think Rags probably helped as well. Deninzon is a massive talent and not just a prodigious violinist but songwriter/composer, vocalist and a FILTHY rock guitarist!! lol. They are riding high and I can't wait to see what the upcoming studio sessions yield with this mix. Meanwhile, we need to catch some live shows eh? Oh, they just killed Bells of Saint James, so cool, like a time machine taking you back. I have caught every lineup of this band live and they are my favorite band of all time and I agree, this iteration has massive potential. How can they sound so tight and fresh with a brand new member stepping on stage with less than a week of live rehearsal time???? KANSAS = EXCELLENCE!!!
Glad he's employed by KANSAS and not in another band. As age goes and seeing so many changes throughout the years. I can see them Carring On if Phil , Rich or Billy decide to retire. With Ronnie,Tom, Eric and new member joe keeping it going.
I respect all musicians but I just can’t see this group of peeps as Kansas. It’s almost as bad as Steve Howe calling his group of fellas YES. I saw them in 77 and that’s how I’ll always remember them.
