We also have such traditions in Nepal too and that too in capital city Kathmandu. There are some traditional religious festival where such masked dance are performed by selected people and such dance and festival are celebrated yearly, 5 yearly or some once every 12 years too. People believe the person in dance will be turned into the god goddess and we can see them trembling shaking uncontrollably too. A person who looks so old 70 plus suddenly transforms into so powerful and dances that few person couldn’t control or hold him. We also have a tradition of worshiping living goddess KUMARI who is selected when quite small and worshiped until attending puberty. Once she attends puberty, another one is selected with tough rules and regulations. Even the king of Nepal would bow down to her and get blessings from her when we had monarchy back. Now a president attends that function and the festival is still celebrated yearly.

There is a belief that who ever marries Kumari will die soon and some kumari will be single for whole life. Some tradition sounds good one way and has side effects other way round.
