Kanto Sub6 subwoofer overview and thoughts and as a separate subwoofer for the Yamaha yas 107 soundar. The Kanto Sub 6 subwoofer is an amazingly compact 6 inch subwoofer with low pass filter, separate volume control, phase switch and dual subwoofer rca inputs. It outputs 100 watts and on paper was a [possible match with the 125 watts Yamaha YAS 107 soundbar which has a subwoofer out port. It wasn’t all plain sailing and I detail my experiences and thoughts both on the subwoofer itself and as a match with the Yamaha YAS 107 soundbar.

VERY GOOD! Initially was not drawn to Alan but given a chance you can see that what he says makes good sense and for someone like me simplifies technical jargon. I subscribed because my experience with most reviewers is that they like the sound of their own voice. Alan certainly helped me make up my mind about the YAS 107. Thank you!

I have this same yas 107 soundbar and I just paired it with a yst015 subwoofer. The setting I have tuned it is --4 on the bass, clear voice, and 3D surround with soundbar with the bass extension active. On the subwoofer I have it at about 63hz and half volume. For a little 6" sub it really gets down. The rumble from the new Quiet Place II movie was amazing! The sound I have is immersive for my bedroom which is rather large 16'x18'. Try these settings for that rumble of life sounds. Hope this helps.

Good review of the Kanto Sub6. I ordered for limited space reasons, but hoping it sounds good (and not too woolly) when it arrives. Slight challenge was getting through your cockney accent! 😊

Interesting review. Much appreciated. I have tried my YAS-107 with a Jamo 8" sub and had a similar experience. In fact mine (when used) is set at 70hz (the lowest cut possible) and 20% volume but then the larger Jamo's are probably louder. I would say except for watching movies where you want something like the rumble of engines or explosions, you are better off using just the YAS-107 by itself and the bass extension mode.

interesting you had the same experience with larger sub. its surprising how much bass the yas 107 can put out on its own. As you say, its really only the really low rumble that you miss.

ha! nope! i was just seeing if this would work as a cute little home cinema sub but in the end you cant scimp on driver size with subs 😑 yeah 10 inches is pretty much what is required (no jokes intended). im sure the kanto sub works nice with their speakers but its never gonna rock the floor, just looks cute.

What cable do you need? I have an external active sub from some old speakers, with red and white input on the back. Connected it to my sun with a cable what I thought was correct but nothing is playing out of the sub. Sub is plugged in. Am I missing something?

I´m looking to build a 2.1 system, using Dali Spektor 1 as main speakers . Could you please recommend some active subwoofers able to drive the Dalis, I´m trying to be minimalist here, for space reasons, and still get some decent sound without the need of any external amps. Thanks in advance

You should used a more recent Yamaha base speaker like the NS-SW100 BLACK. Except for some very minor adjustments it sounds wonderful with the Yas-108 . I decided to stay with the manufacturer because it has a better chance to be more vetted .

I'm totally lost. I'm considering hooking up my HSU RESEARCH VTF - 1 sub to the 107 , and have it sit to the side ( and below ) the table the tv and soundbar sit. Not sure if it would overpower the sound , or the proper settings. Great review! Very detailed. I am in market for a YAS 108 (latest iteration) and wanted to understand if Yamaha, on its own, is good enough. How good is the music playback on these Yamaha speaker (107)?

this is a good all round budget soundbar. it is never going to replace a dedicated hifi or even high end bluetooth speaker, its just tuned different. Music sounds decent but if your ears are used to standalone speakers you will hear the difference.

@@alanrossreviews Thanks for a super quick reply. From my research of just one day so far, I get a feeling that Soundbars are more meant for enhanced TV volumes and more nuanced audio experience, not a significant one. Would you know of any that doesn't cost a bomb and still a great set?

@@AnimeshSB they do different things, soundbars decode a surround track, music speakers dont. To sound good with both music and surround really needs a decent seperates hifi, the stereo image can be impressive but its not surround. These surround systems just are not designed for stereo and balanced thought out the spectrum.

I am planning to buy Either (Yamaha 108 + Yamaha NS SW050 Sub woofer) OR Yamaha 207 (comes with wireless subwoofer). Which one do you think is a better option as total cost in India for both is the same. My intended use is TV + Music (bluetooth) in the bedroom about 250 sqft.

i wasnt overly happy with it, lots depend on your room size and acoustics, however for me wasnt tight enough.

I have Yas 107 and I got a new subwoofer yamaha sw100; what would be the setting for mainly movies and sports ? My current setting without the sub is 0 sub and enabled base extension. Shall I keep the same settings?

you have a problem, the yas has no crossover and the sub no low pass filter so a hell of a lot of doubling in the bass. i guess turn off bass extension and sub down to lowest setting and take it from there.

i really havent heard it, but its old and doesnt support the likes of virtual-x as with the 207.

i would go with the 200, you can always turn down the volume to suit with the front volume button, very handy.

Would you recommend the YAS-107 with an added sub, or a soundbar with included sub for the same cost? There's an open box Klipsch RSB-11 for $400 at a local store I'm debating on.

i havent heard the Klipsch RSB-11 so cant really comment. Being able to add ANY sub to the yas 107 is an advantage.

I just purchased the Kanto YU4, do I have to purchase the Kanto Sub6 to go with it? Or can I purchase another brand (maybe a Klipsch) Sub to go with the Kanto? I just wanted to make sure I am not "missing out" on anything by NOT going with the Matching Kanto Sub. Thank you
