True to a degree. But I mean, Jesus is King definitely isn't a flop, it's gotten quite a lot of traction considering he has released 3 albums in the past two calendar years. But still a dope bar never the less, as when it was written 15 years ago it was even MORE true.

JIK has a lot in common with 808s & Heartbreak imo -Both came after major pain in his life (808s: Passing of Donda West, JIK: Hospitalization/Bipolar Diagnosis/"Mental Breakdown") -Both alienated a big part of his fanbase -Both feature some really rough mixes (808s: Songs like Love Lockdown, JIK: Songs like On God) -Both went into a totally new Direction in terms of the vibe they give off -Also both heavily feature Choirs & Tribal Drums We know how 808s ended up being percieved as one of the most influental albums of this Century... Who knows what effects JIK will have... + Remember we got MBDTF after 808s!
Still say that Ye should've done his gospel album in form a live recording of the Sunday Service group. Its been too long since we've had a live Ye album and the Choir and instrumentation might have sounded quite spirited and glorious in a live setting.
I agree totally. The live version of "Hands On" is so much better than the album version. Kanye himself and his virtuoso production team seem to take away from the live versions of the songs rather than add value.

@@ricoautosauve7849 nah a bunch of those Yhandi leaks were just left on the cutting room floor. I listen to them daily, and it sucks. Yeah there were a couple taken from Yhandi but even then they feel like way different songs.
Tha Swami damn I might not have listened to full leak. I do wish law of attractions like added instruments n stuff was on use this gospel. Also cutting room floor dang. Not to be morbid or cynical and hoping he lives a happy long as possible life, when Kanye passes on, again hopefully many years from now, what’re labels gonna do so much unreleased things thatre very much in his head.
This is one of the most clear, thoughtful, well-researched reviews I have seen about this album! I don't know if you're a Christian or not, but the way you talked about Jesus and the gospel made me very happy! That is the message I live to proclaim. It was powerful enough to change my life and I'm glad Kanye has experienced the grace of God.
@@dav1djac0b I don't know you but I do know God and his word quite well. I see no reason at all to say what you have said about Kanye or this album. I'd point you to 1 Corinthians 12:3 ( to start with) . You can enjoy the album or choose not to listen. The Church doesn't stand or fall on the confession of Kanye or anyone else. Christ is King and I pray you, Kanye and tons of other people know Him as Lord.

You will know nothing good will come from a music industry as evil as fruits do not cone from diseased or corrupt trees. You know satan was the one in charge of music & that he uses influence risk people to influence the world. You’ll know about spiritual emotions and the dangers of following our hearts. You know if thrres no blood no sin & no cross it’s not the gospel. And without the Holy Spirit, who is God, Hesus in the flesh, the Word. Then you know Kanye’s “god” is not Our God. Even the demons know Jesus is King. They accept He exists. They won’t acknowledge Hes the King of Kings. Who does Gods Word say He is? There’s no Gospel or God here. It’s all deception.

Idk if anybody here has heard the leaked album. But I think nobody will understand Jesus is king without hearing yandhi and how it fit in yandhi. You can clearly hear there was a shift of concept and ideology during the recording process. Especially if you paid attention to Ye recording in wyoming, Chicago, and doing Sunday Service.
After finding and listening to the leak of Yandhi I can back this statement. I had so much more respect and was in amazement after listening to both. “Everybody wanted Yandhi but Jesus Christ did the laundry” “I ain’t tryna lead you to Feezus but if I try to lead you to Jesus, they gon’ be the first one’s to judge me”

I knew Kanye was going to release a Gospel Album from "Jesus Walks". Kanye has always wanted to be pure (innocent) that's why he used a 'Teddy Bear' on artworks. Donda taught him well.
It’s been patched a few times. The first time was October 27th. He removed “this is not about a damn religion...” to “this is not about a dead religion...”
A lot of sources say that Jesus Is King 2 won't be another album. It'll be some sort of "patch". Adding new songs and verses prod. by kanye and dr. dre
Being a Christian is not "what's in it for me?"... Or "what will I get from that?"... It is all about NOT YOURSELF BUT GOD. ALL ABOUT GOD. ALL ABOUT GIVING YOUR LIFE TO CHRIST. Many will not understand it, but it is good knowing that grace is for free through Jesus Christ. We dont deserve ANY OF IT, AND YET, GOD GAVE IT ANY THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.
HiggsBoson I feel the same way. I didn’t enjoy it at first. I just listened to “On God” and a few others today and now I’m trying to figure out why I didn’t like the album initially. It was the same with Yeezus, now Yeezus is my absolute favorite album of all time
HiggsBoson i will because this project was half assed and underwhelming. It doesn’t feel as genuine as previous songs made by Ye regarding towards religion. I’d recommend you watch Volksgeist video about this project and how disingenuous this project felt. I am a big time Ye fan but i felt robbed by this.

You should defiantly do one on The Weeknd. He had such a rich mysterious history and with his director nabil elderkin they create a lot of work with hidden meanings and messages.
Who wold have ever thought that people would be singing Kanye West songs at youth conferences like THE RAMP, people keep saying that this is just a plan for art or something, Well......I can tell you one thing, his music can still touch peoples hearts. Kanye's album's have always been complimentary of each period in his life, and that's really important for an artist to be able to do, but Jesus Is King, if you take it solely as an album and mute everything else around it, is pretty bad. Definitely his worst album
I think Kanye is just figuring it out but his next project I think will get all of his fans back he's working on another project wit Dr dre so we will see how things go me personal I thought he did a great job and I'm so happy his album didn't sound like the radio it's like everyone's music is starting to sound the same and it's annoying
Jesus is King is a Kanye album at the end of the day. Is it different? Yea. But is it Kanye? Definitely. Jesus is King is an interesting project that somehow crosses Kanye with very devout Christianity. Will he continue only making gospel music? I'm not sure, and I don't really care. I'm appreciating Kanye for Kanye. And right now, I'm appreciating Jesus is King.

I love Ye and all of his albums but this project felt so half-assed and disingenuous. Lyrics don't cut it for me, themes are mainly about god which could've been interesting but aren't really, and the instrumentals are interesting at parts but all over the place. People saying it will be a classic are ignoring that other projects like 808s at least knew what it was. This just takes songs that were supposed to be Yandhi and adds Jesus to it. 4/10 from me
i feel like this is a good start, but he should do like he did with his first 3 albums, plus his 5th album and just develope this starting point even further maybe linking with Lecrae, mogli the iceburg. KB and some other christian rappers and GAWVI for production on his future projects
Fan since before college dropout. Seen Ye at least 9 times live, including this last Coachella. But I still haven’t listened to this album. I don’t know. It’s hard. Maybe because I’m agnostic, maybe because I fear that this, like Ye, will be subpar. Kanye’s music means so much to me. Straight up existential crisis.
Not like it matters but I'm agnostic, big fan of ye and his production and style, Jesus is king slaps, don't have to follow Christ or a religion to enjoy the new album. It's ye being ye but with a new Outlook on life. 💁 Just my two cents you should peep it definitely worth it
If his music means a lot to you, have compassion and accept the different quality of his albums. He's still learning and experimenting with his craft. Every artist is. Such high expectations create a stifling experience so take it all in stride and enjoy it for what it is. It's the beginning of a new era for him and we get to experience the work in progress.
If ye can be seen as a bunch of decent B sides, JIK is a collection of unfinished demos that could've made a bunch of classics. Its listenable if you have an ear for composition and melody, but the lyrics, songwriting, mixing, mastering, singing, and rapping all needed a lot of work. The best songs are use this gospel, follow god, and selah for me.
As a previous seminarian (someone who studied to be a priest) a lot of his lyrical content can actually be pretty deep. For example when he says reading half of Ephesians. The first half of Ephesians is about the law of love. The second half is about how to love as a lover. Those who only read half would have been a Pharisee or a fake practitioner of the Faith.
Donda makes Jesus is King sound better. Timeline wise if Donda came out before Jesus is King, it would make more sense style wise to go from gritty with no swearing album to full gospel album, compared to the vise verse we got.
