And then his admission “I don’t know how imma manage if one day you just up and leave”. This album came out when I was like 32 (and was going through a break up with my fiancée funnily enough). I’d been listening to hip hop religiously since the mid 90s. Up until that point, lyrics were always about how many girls rappers had, and how they didn’t give a fuck about them or need them. The sheer vulnerability of a huge rap star admitting he did not know how he would cope if his girl left him was kinda unprecedented at that point. It knocked me for six. Still does even now, 13 years later.
