@@Joda21steel LOL sucks the chain never happened. He doesn't cover games individually too often but Scott the Woz is pretty good. And of course Dunkey in more recent years started doing reviews that aren't as oriented around jokes and more around genuine criticisms/thoughts on the game. That's all I got
It was actually very common to have passwords for budget releases at the start of the gba's lifespan. Titus and Planet Interactive (two budget publishers) relied heavily on these cheaper cartridges.
It's games like Kao on the GBA that make me thankful we at least got Bionicle Heroes to prove handheld entries in a multiplatform release could be better than their console counterparts. Soundtrack's amazing in that version.
There's also 2008's TMNT, every version of that game is bad, except for the GBA version, that version is a River City Ransom style classic beat'em up, and it's got some pretty good graphics and animations!
I actually remember playing the GBA port of this game when I was in child care. All I remember of it, though, was that creepy fox spiraling toward me and that infectious title music.
By the end of that gba Kao game I think NitroRad was slowly losing his mind. Not that I blame him that game looks like it would make a person lose their mind.
It's just a variation of the "first!" comment fad. Stupid kids who live worthless lives do it as it makes them feel like they finally achieved something worthwhile.
It's honestly not that bad. Since RU-vid changed their video notifications and the "bell button" is needed I tend to forget it's there sometimes. At least it's sometimes a handy reminder that "Oh right, I need to do this extra step because YT is dumb."
Nice indirect. I don't know why you need to complain, instead of acting like a child and bitching about it in the comments just ignore it and move on with your life?
I always ask when I see this in videos, but did you actually toss the real cartridge in the toilet? It was face down so I am guessing it was some clever trick and you just tossed in any old cart, but I am always amazed when I watch videos (AVGN comes to mind) when they go even further and destroy the cartridges. Bad game or not, I would much rather have even the worst games part of my collection versus not having them.
Well the problem is that many of these games youtubers already have a huge library, so they would just sell the game anyways. So why not get a good joke out of it instead of 1.50$ ?
I've watched this video a few times in the background while eating or grinding rpgs and I have never noticed the outtake at the end where you miss the toilet 😂
Going back to the Kao vids, I appreciated showcasing some of the handheld parallels to some pretty classic 3D games. Rayman 3 in particular, which still feels like the whimsy of Rayman 3 skinned over a Rayman 2 level progression set. Even the bosses reminded me of the Fairy Glade, Foutch and of course finishing on the Grolgoth. A great combo in my book.
Titus reminds me of a modern LJN in ways. Especially on N64, that infamous Superman game and boring as drying paint Zelda Ocarina of Time ripoff licensed game of that late 90s live action Hercules show. This game has that same general feel, it's just not that well done. Appreciate your good natured informative content,Rad even three years later, have been rewatching you today and it's been helping me through a not so great one, cheers fellow Maritimer.
His channel is the fucking best, no joke. It's literally the best. Engaging angry interesting content. A recognizable personality. Little bias. No controversy. Honesty. Good structure. It's the fucking best
Believe it or not, Kao was my first GBA game. I loved it, but I recently bought it again and found it was pretty bad. It’s cool that you reviewed it. :D
It’s understandably unfortunate that you weren’t able to check out the extra 4 levels of the Swamps, given that they’re placed right after the Island levels. Even got a unique level gimmick!
Hey man! Cool stuff you got here, just went through your whole Kao marathon, brought back a lot of memories. You prove that among a legion of fat nerds trying to be funny fighting game cartridges and shit there are a few guys doing the reviews in a proper and interesting way without imitating AVGN. Good work, keep it up now. Cheers.
2:21 Seems like an odd level choice considering it's about a boxing kangaroo. I suppose it's meant for variety as platformers are known for, but it still seems like an out of place transition.
OMG! As the logo for titus popped up, I immediately had a flashback to when AVGN reviewed Superman 64, and when he said, "Titus, the f==k is that!?" xD xD
Oh boy this seems like a rough one. Which is a bummer because I really enjoyed your last two Kao videos and I just wanted to say you've become one of my favorite youtubers. Your Lisa video inspired me to go buy the game and I loved it. I beat Lisa the painful and the joyful a few months ago and I still feel the emotional impacts from that game as a whole. You've given me a video game that has become and still is my favorite to this day. I always look forward to your videos because they're very entertaining and uplifting, though I always say the wrong version of your name "Nitro". I always say the version used with cars when your version means old and retro correct? I really am glad I found your youtube channel Rad!
I played Kao GBA a ton as a child, and I didn't even know that there were more Kao games until I discovered this series of videos today. I always associated it with another game I played at the same time which I believe was also published by Titus, Planet Monsters. Actually, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure I got both of those games through my school's Scholastic Book Order...why was Scholasitc Book Order selling games...
Well, good luck trying to figure out what they're saying in the 3rd game if you don't speak Polish. btw, "tajemnica" means both secret and mystery. Legend is just "legenda".
NitroRad, have you ever heard of American McGee presents Scrapland? Its an Xbox original and PC exclusive game. I believe it would be perfect for a video on your channel!
Yo Nitro, I'm assuming that you are aware of it already but in case you don't: There is a fanmade English patch for KAO 3 going around the internet. Mediafire: file/8bxdsm6ua8y6v18/Kao+3+Translation.zip
I've got a bit of a weird question for you. In your Yume Nikki video, in the background, there's what seems to be an AR variant rifle. Is this The Patriot rifle from Metal Gear Solid? Another question about your background, what is the plushie thing made of white and red fabric and bulging eyeballs? It's in every video and I always wondered what it was from. Thanks!
Best thing about the password system in GBA, the Passwords were near identical, just one character at the end changed for five levels, then after that, may be the 4th character had to change for the password, so on, so forth.
Hear me out: gba kao reeks of metal slug. The desert area feels like the first ml2 level, the "spacecraft" looks like the ml combat jet you can board in ml2 mission 3, the genie is a tappe cersion of the lamp genie from mission 2, the hunter looks like he could be an enemy from that game, this is so weird
i really like that you've taken it upon yourself to produce a thorough account of the Kao the Kangaroo series idk ive never played these games, dont care about them. but the fact that somebody cares about this werid, kinda shitty looking series enough to critically dissect it-head to toe-makes me smile
