I love to see how well the two of you get along with each other and this whole channel is a partner thing :) I see zero ego and simply see two cool dudes who love what they're doing, know a lot about it and enjoy sharing it with others. That's makes your channel very enjoyable
Hey thanks. We both do our best to keep our ego in check with all things in life. It generally leads to a more enjoyable existence. We do love karate and we are happy that individuals like yourself enjoy our channel, makes it worth doing.
Hey thanks, glad you liked it. Yeah, it seems if we don't make it a point to repeat the idea we are trying to get across it gets forgotten. The fact that a lot of things depend on the situation is a pretty important idea for people to keep in mind when applying techniques.
With karate, we have the advantages to use strikes to create unbalance before throwing or taking them down. Judo is all about using kuzushi. I train both so its good to be able to combine them together.
Very interesting. Seeing the mechanics of a move is freeing, because no longer you need that particular technique, just something that meets the points that make it work "i dont know what that is, but it loads him, so i'll just try it" kind of thing. Also, is easier to defend 2 or 3 things with a million variants, that a million techniques. About generality of movement, there's a japanese word, I think it was senpubanka, meaning someone has mastered a move, so a million variant are available to him. I think is the same thing. When you understand the mechanics of a technique, the details are unnecesary, you just need something that meets the key points that make that mechanic work. I'll do some bunkai with the ideas you put there and see what comes out, thanks a lot : )
Shinwoo K thanks! That’s exactly why we made this video, you described it perfectly as “freeing.” Too many people fail to even start trying things out because they don’t want to get something wrong, but if you break it down to simple concepts, that allows for experimentation
I really like this. I always have trouble with throws and I think it's because I always over complicate them in my head, I'll now think of them from the basis of "What am I trying to do with this throw?" i.e. Am i trying to reap/ sweep? Am I trying to load or trip? I also find it easier to learn some of these techniques through free sparring/ grappling. Anyways, love the content and keep it up!
Hey thanks. That was exactly the goal of this video. Trips, throws and sweeps all basically function the same. It all really just depends on where you are relative to your opponent and free sparring/grappling is one of the ways we train a lot of our techniques. Good luck.
They dont show you what all those techniques spell out at the shotokan dojo. Makes complete sense, karate is not just striking from a distance, but its fighting in the inside, closing the distance, striking and takedowns.
Ninj 2026 Don't take it bad I am sure he is joking. I just wanted your insight on why this vidéo is not needed? I feel like the video itself fulfills what the title advertised, it is a simple point of view on throws.
Technically there are some 67 judo throws that could be taught. They all have a name and a "way" to perform each throw. The goal of this video was to break down the throws into a few basic categories or overlying principals which would allow you to apply the ideas instead of just a single throw at a time. Our hope is that you would then be able to explore these concepts versus memorize every little subtle detail of every single throw.
