Mr. Miyagi teaches Daniel karate in an unusual way. He doesn't even know he's learning, and thinks he's only doing chores, but Mr. Miyagi knows what he's doing. Edited by Paul K. Hoover.
It would had been more sensible to tell before hand what the point were with car waxing and with painting. That way training would had been more effective. Knowing WHY is very important with these kind of things.
(responding to year old comment) Patience and focus are the two core principles to Miyagi-Do Karate. The first step is testing Daniels patience to it's limit while stressing how focused he must be on the shores. While sneaking in motion exercises. You have a really good point, but the method makes sense if you follow the themes.
@@doompigg7403 Not disagreeing, but the style they are practicing is supposed to be Goju Ryu. Mr. Miyagi is, of course, a homage to Chōjun Miyagi, who invented the Goju-Ryu style. Of course the movie is a little bit liberal in it's portrayal of Goju-Ryu, but hey! Hollywood magic baby!!!
I don't agree. At the beginning of learning anything you get quick progress and it's easy to quickly fall into trap of high self-confidence and over-pride. Lots of people just stops their lessons after few, as they're sure they know anything. That's called Dunning Kruger effect. Mr Miyagi method allows his students to gain skill without being aware of it, so they dont fall into DK effect.
I also disagree. The first step in true discipline is following orders for NO reason other than the authority of the figure in power. I think this is the key. The WHY is simply because they said so.
