"Wouldn't it be great if I won?" "Be great you survive." "Survive? What do you mean 'Survive'?!?" HAHAHAHAHAHA. BOTH of their comedic timings was off the chain!
I love that Daniel shows up on tournament day and says “So what are the rules here?” If Ali hadn’t absorbed some of it from being Johnny’s ex poor Daniel would have been out to sea.
Unfortunately it revealed that he had poor hygiene. Daniel rubbed his eye where he hit him. It was scratched by dutch's toenail. Dutch neglected even cutting his toenails.
This movie is one of the best ever made. The 80s was a stange phenomenon where all those movies get remade but worse, so you remember how amazing they were to begin with. I will love this movie forever!
People often don't realize the brilliance of the movie and why it works so well when they see it. What Daniel learned in months was something you could teach anyone in months. He was taught to see an attack, block and counterstrike. It didn't have to be pretty. And Miyagi chose point fighting because all Daniel would have to know by then is how to block and throw a single counterstrike. He didn't even have to have great technique for that, and he had the technique of a kid that had been doing it for only a few months. But he was effective through smart instruction. If it were freestyle, Daniel wouldn't have been ready. Being thoughtful like that in the presentation is what made the movie work. The remake fell flat because there is no way Dre is becoming a Kung Fu master to that degree in such a short time. And so it was harder to suspend disbelief.
That's the dude Vidal. They always talk about in Cobra Kai. I always wonder why they never had him in the show. He was the last person to beat Johnny before Daniel did it.
@@MegaMma4lifecould be worse...could be better. first episodes n season was epic. it started good.if it focused more on a single male character and his struggles and rivary it could be better and more seriois but they gotta make the new agenda thing including female characters and beating men 😂 not realistic u just cant take serious and enjoy like this
Wonderful heart warming film from 1984, classic. Little reference to the tournament referee's here, with a link to the film Enter the Dragon in 1973. Pat E Johnson is a 9 th degree black belt and was the referee in daniel's first match and the final. He was sent to collect money from Roper ( John Saxon) in the trees on the golf course with 2 other guys, in a flashback from Roper as he is being taken to the boat in Hong Kong harbour, And the other referee is Steve Sanders who wee see at 5.18 in the video, Steve is a 10 th degree black belt and had a brief appearance in Enter the Dragon as the Sensei in the Dojo that Williams ( Jim Kelly ) visits before leaving for Hong Kong. Steve was working his Students when Williams came in to say goodbye and Steve wished him all the best in his tournament, not through words but just the actions the two men make. This is also in a flashback from Williams as he is getting taken to the boat in Hong Kong harbour. Just a side note to the final tournament here which is brilliant. Great film from what seems so long ago which makes it sad, but the film has stood the test of time. Pat E Johnson makes an appearance at the start of the karate kid 2 congratulating daniel outside the tournament building. One of the best parts for me in this tournament is when johnny gets beat in the final, and quickly comes to reality and his senses, grabs the trophy and gives it to daniel saying " your all right larusso " showing his respect. Always brings a tear to my eye the ending. The cobra kai lads really hurt daniel throughout the rounds. I do think johnny comes to his senses quickly seeing the fight in daniel to overcome his injuries to beat him. Yeah just brilliant and i go back and watch it whenever i see it on the tv. 1984, 36 years ago and i am here in 2020. Thanks for putting this up. 👍.
Cool stuff! Did you know, that this one was supposed to end after Miyagi gives Kreese the "HONK!" treatment. But they decided that his look of pure satisfaction was the best place to end the movie (the score was at it's zenith and it was pure celebration) so cut the original end onto the start of the second part. The same thing happened with Jaden Smith's version, where they filmed Mr Han fighting Sifu Lee after the tournament, but it was cut so the film ended in similar circumstances (pure celebration at the win).
Also, at 1:09, Pat Johnson shares the screen with Chad McQueen. Chad's father was also part of that circle with Pat and Bruce Lee. Pat probably remembers Chad when he was born
At the end of the Dutch fight, you can tell that they overdubbed "winner" from the ref. That was probably just pointing out one point, because Dutch looked like he was going to continue fighting. That was probably supposed to be the first point for Daniel.
I’ve heard that there’s a deleted scene where Dutch just snaps and goes after Daniel, tackling him instigating a fight. That got Dutch disqualified which is why the match is short. I don’t think the scene was released though
Yeah, the actor actually plays himself in the movie (both the actor and character's name is Darryl Vidal) and was a real-life black belt. He's now a 10th degree black belt and runs his own kenpo school. In addition, he was Pat Morita's body double when Daniel sees Miyagi practicing the crane technique
Should have left the scene in where Bobby takes his belt off and throws it at Kreese's feet. He was the only one who saw Kreese for what he was among the Cobra Kai.
Cue Ron Thomas was actually a black belt in real life. He was the only actor with a martial arts background. Billy Zanna was a high school wrestler, but the others had never done combat sports before.
I just hope he and Daniel make peace. I know he didn’t want to intensely injure Daniel in the tournament. He knew he’d be disqualified and he was sincere in his sorry to Daniel
Anyone believe that should really pay attention. Even Ali said everything above your waist is a point. Besides that, Miguel just so happens to use the crane technique in his first round in the tourney. Why wasn’t Miguel dq’d? Lol
@@midnightfury4584, face kicks were allowed however excessive contact was not allowed which is why Bobby got disqualified for excessively attacking Daniel’s leg, if he had done a regular kick to the legs he wouldn’t have been disqualified, so the crane kick was illegal, Daniel should have been issued a warning for it As for how Miguel got away with it, there’s proof that the rules of the tournament changed, an example would be how u needed only two points to win preliminary matches in 1984 but in cobra kai u need 3 points to win every match, so I’m guessing that the rules now allow excessive contact.
Head kicks/Punches are allowed, but face contact isn’t allowed. Ali even says - you can hit the sternum, the head, kidneys and the ribs. Source: fought in national karate tournaments.
@@itzheraldo If you look at my original comment, I said bobby could have won the tournament.... I never said that he was better than Chozen... In my opinion, in this story line, (excluding Miyagi. And Sato) is Chozen is the best.... Do you understand now???
@@epcotman32 Vidal and Ron Thomas (Bobby) are the only two featured characters that had prior extensive experience (Chad McQueen to a smaller degree). Everyone else learned from Pat Johnson.
So hyped for Season 4!!! This gotta be the song played in the finale... Can't wait for Robby to be wearing the black and yellow Cobra Kai uniform... Eli: Hey, look who it is! Miguel: See you in the final match, Sensei Lawrence Junior!
I always liked how Cobra Kai was made out to be invincible like then ones like Daniel and Vidal and another karate fighter were killing cobras left and right
The official at the desk signing in the participants played Lewis, Cliff Clavin's coworker in an episode of Cheers. He showed up to the bar ostensibly to protect Cliff from a bully.
Nothing more satisfying in the tournament than Daniel-SAN beating Dutch! You really wanted to see more damage to Dutch but that's why this movie was better than most. It was more realistic in that it involved more of the awkwardness and frustration in competitions and fighting.
Yes. Darryl Vidal supposedly beat Johnny before (two years prior, as it's implied that Johnny beat Bobby in the year before this tourney). Vidal was the one you see doing the crane kick on the beach - dressed as Miyagi.
Dutch should have been in the finals vs Daniel. He would have had no issues with crippling him. I think Vidal, too, is a great fighter. He should have put away Lawrence.
The official says only teachers and students are allowed on the competition floor - but when they get there the place is FULL of random people milling around next to the mats, chatting with the fighters etc.
DEFINITIVAMENTE ESTA CANCIÓN LE DIO UN GRAN PLUS A LA PELÍCULA. QUIEN Hiba Imaginar QUE DESPUÉS DE QUE NADIE LA QUERÍA OCUPARLA Para OTRAS PELÍCULAS, LA DEJARON PARA Karate KID POR QUÉ NO HabiA OTRA OPCIÓN.
I'm amazed @ how easy it was to get in thought you said he couldent speak english & for someone who suposedly couldent speak english responds to the word thankyou & he still let them in
I wonder if that referee will make a comeback in season 4? He is very instrumental in the all valley, pity we didn't see him in season 1, he was in the "Sweep the leg" music video.
