"City of Karauli"
The old name of Karauli was Kalyanpuri which was founded in 1348 by Raja Arjun Pal of Yadav dynasty. But in 1650 AD, Maharaja Dharmapala II made Kalyanpuri his capital and named it Karauli. Karauli district was earlier a part of Sawai Madhopur district. But in 1997 it was separated from Sawai Madhopur and made 32nd district of Rajasthan. According to the Karauli district area spread over 5530 square kilometers, it is the 25th largest and 9th smallest district of Rajasthan.
