Travel to Karbala
Hazrat Imam Hussain (a.s.) traveled from Makkah to Karbala, accompanied by his Ahl al-Bayt and close companions. People stopped him at various places on the way and invited him to pledge allegiance, but Hazrat Imam Hussain refused. Eventually they reached Karbala, where Yazid's army surrounded them.
Siege Difficulties
Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions were deprived of water in Karbala. They were kept hungry and thirsty for three days. It was a very difficult time, especially for women and children.
Day of Ashura
The war started on 10 Muharram. Companions of Hazrat Imam Hussain entered the field one by one and were martyred while fighting bravely. Finally, Hazrat Imam Hussain also entered the field and continued to fight till the last moment. They gave their lives but refused to bow down to oppression.
After martyrdom
After the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions, the children and women of their family were imprisoned and taken to Kufa and Damascus. There, mountains of persecution were broken on them. But Hazrat Zainab bint Ali and Imam Zain al-Abidin exposed Yazid's oppression and persecution with their sermons and informed people about the reality of Hazrat Imam Hussain's sacrifice.
Lesson and Message
The incident of Karbala teaches us to persevere in the battle of right and wrong, to stand against oppression, and to make every possible sacrifice for justice. This event set a precedent in Muslim history that would be remembered for centuries. This incident reminds us that there will be difficulties in the path of truth, but if faced with patience, perseverance, and faith, success and prosperity are assured...
