Am i understanding correctly? The compartment the clean water goes in is completely open? So this is not something you could use on the stairs as it would spill?

Hi @James C, For refreshing & brightening carpets, I would recommend the Karcher SC5 Steam Cleaner. However, I wouldn't recommend this machine for removing deep stains in carpets. This machine would be more useful for smaller environments like homes & other small sized carpets. We would rate it 5/10 in regards to deeply cleaning carpets.
