Did not know that returning cards got lumped into current expansion. Every day is a school day. That Paulus001 is clearly a top bloke!

I save all my packs through the week and only open on Wednesdays when the week starts... then I know how much work I need to do to get the crate I want. Just how I do it

This is a pretty solid approach. I have done this on alt accounts as it makes it easier to judge what you are aiming for.

What happens if I save up my winter war packs until Covert Operations drops? Do my winter war packs automatically get destroyed? Do they get turned into core packs? Or do they just stay in my inventory until I open them?

they stay! I did that with Brothers in Arms and I could still open these packs. It may be good if you keep them bc you cannot pack cards that are rotated out (ignoring the fact that no Winter War Card is able to rotate out until the expansion after Covered Operations) - on the other hand you´re able to pack the "broken" cards now and are able to recycle them to Wildcards when no longer in use. I always leave some packs behind bc I want to (memories, crate progress...) but it´s your choice to make to open them now or leave them as they were - they will not disappear! (at least I hope so)
