Karen Clark Sheard singing Anytime You Need a Friend in Tribute to Mariah Carey ♪ Amazing Perfomance! Rehearsal and performance I never found this performance in high quality #KarenClarkSheard #MariahCarey #AnytimeYouNeedaFriend
Everyone knows Mariah is force vocally but She has always referenced the Clark Sisters as some of her inspirations, esp karen. I feel like its only fitting that Karen did this tribute as it is 1 of Mariah's hardest sings to sing. However, Mariah didn't want to hear a replica of herself. She wanted to her that "Karen sound" and I'll say there is only 1 KCS just like there's only 1 Mariah. Imagine if both of those powerhouses collab... Someones gonna pass out.
Y’all talking like it’s easy to cover a Mariah Carey song. She only did it the way Karen could. She’s known for her high range and gospel growls and was also very scared to sing that song. I give any soprano credit for even trying
Please, the highest belted notes are G5’s. Mariah never even tried to sing this song live. Studio vocals can sound magical, but they are studio vocals. Live singing is a whole level above. Karen killed it. Patti could easily nail the song belting higher and adding some super powerful head voice run towards the or something.
Love Karen she killed!! Why have there not been more Mariah tributes?? She has put in the work and broken records! 20+ years. Let's not wait til people die to give them their flowers.
I honestly don’t think Mariah is ready to be seen like Patti and Aretha were at her age. She’s still trying to keep a youthful, contemporary image. So while she’s a legend, she’s on the grind like a younger artist and doesn’t want her image to be too seasoned. I don’t think you’ll see agree to a lot of major tributes until we’ll into her 60s.
Mariah does have difficult songs however Tamar Braxton, Ariana Grande, Avery Wilson, and Johnny Manuel have all proven that it can be done again. I need to see more Mariah tributes.
When Karen takes your song, she TAKES IT, brings the key up and sails to the heavens. Mariah was in tears and bowing. Karen Clark-Sheard is simply that legendary of a vocalist and has been that was since the 70’s.
@@honestperson3042 You’re a non black I take it. You wouldn’t know anything about BLACK churches or music. Stay in your non black lane and mind your business.
@@DaLibraTay this hits different Mariah would definitely approve because I wanted to hear more and when Mariah sung this live in 2019 in concert i was there like omg I lost it was in the audience balling when she hit those beautiful high and low notes I couldn’t control myself ❤️❤️❤️❤️ # she didn’t lip a thing and there weren’t any horrible cracks as everybody kept saying you’d hear a very lite crack but it wasn’t like everybody said # Over over saturating ti the fullest she some rasp but it wasn’t even bad you could barely hear it but that night she sung her freaking heart out on that stage nothing was lipped I heard her breathing while singing I saw her chest as you was taking her breathing 😮💨 chest was moving in and out Mariah omg 😱 killed it
They were going to release it ass a show and sell it. I guess it fell through. Mariah will release it "for the nostalgia, dahling" when she need some momentum. I love some MC. She's my Fab. Buy Karen tributing you and you citing her as your fave. You should have atleast released this performance yrs ago. She killed your tribute
Oh she changes them. Her version of Don't Play That Song is different from Aretha's version and so on. Diana Ross told Mariah she wasn't going to do that high note on her song.
@@ellavirg Stevie Wonder's background vocalist on some of his early works included Syreeta Wright Denise Williams & Minnie Ripperton ? Is this factual ? They all 3 individually had amazing whistle register vocals. I imagine hearing all 3 simultaneously must be as close to hearing Angels sing ,as you can get! Mariah Carey is another amazing vocalist with her melodious, beautiful, ethereal, Angelic voice & wonderful songwriting! 💕 💕 💕
Ppl talking about her and Mariah and not being as good as Mariah . But search here Mariah defends Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson and the interviewer asked "are they in your league?" She said "who am I to say that ." "And there's my friends I'm embarrassed to sing in front of them ." She went on to specify ppl like Karen Clark . So if Mariah feels initimated by Karen's vocals then ppl should stop comparing.
Mariah is the greatest vocalist of all time and this just proves it, Karen was straining all of those G5s Mariah was hitting them effortlessly with resonance
No, u clearly don’t know that Karen actually has a larger range than Mariah. She was crying before this performance but she usually hits those notes with ease and as Karen got older her range INCREASED, Mariah’s range has decreased
@@iamdaviontatum Mariah to this day can sing lower and higher than Karen, so no Karen’s range is not larger. Karen can belt higher but Mariah was never a high belter to begin with even in her prime
Maybe this woman doesn't sing so badly, but Anytime You Need A Friend is a song that has to be treated delicately and very carefully and not get out of the ordinary. The screams or Shultz that she does here have no place for this wonderful song, so much screaming bores and distorts the melody as it is in its original version and if she tried to do something original and I distinguish Mariah Carey's song as it is, it came out very badly. In conclusion I did not like how this singer sang it. IMHO!
She influenced Mariah and Beyoncé, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. The woman is a beast and just freaking talented, you just can’t comprehend her ability, so you dislike it. The church is a place where singers do not play, they give all they got, whether runs, growls or trills.
This was a bad recording but this was definitely a hot performance it’s just Karen was displaying versatility gospel runs and rnb/jazz runs so that what make it seems all over the place it’s not Karen song she was just honoring a friend.
She was out of tune a lot of times but she's a great singer. That's why never a sing a Mariah Carey song especially during her prime years. You will pale in comparison.
Number 3 Yeahh Karen did her own thing, Karen did a more gospel version of AYNAF. And I’m sure Mariah appreciated Karen’s originality and take on her song.
Wrong! Mariah looks up to the Clark Sister and acknowledged Karen Clark Sheard to be vocally superior to her. By the looks at her expressions, she enjoyed every bit of it
