I'm pretty sure someone saw Karen in the place & asked her to do a little something. Being the professional that Karen is, she led the band & the singers, and still sounded amazing. Dr. Mattie Moss taught her well!!
Beautiful Karen. We're Cogic who doesn't know this song. She's use to singing this for every presiding Bishop funeral it's the easiest funeral song. It shows no one knows the old hymns anymore smh.
I've been reading these ignorant comments for years. They're ministering at a funeral. It's not a concert. So what , they didn't know the song. Vocalists stand in front of the church all the time with words. The church needs to get past pettiness and focus on souls.
Chelsea's Entertainment Corner whatever you do do it in a spirit of excellence. how can we minister something we don't even know. I can't preach a sermon and don't know the text .
Some of you people are terrible. Perhaps Karen Clark Sheard decided to come to funeral and was not listed to sing; however, she was there and the people said, "look you gotta sing!!" So she decided to sing something she thought everyone knew. If the backup singers were suppose to back her up, don't you think, they would have already been in place. She also prompted the musicians with the lyrics before she started to sing. Come on people and let's just enjoy the sweet spirit this songs provides.
Ari Lotus that is very true, but they had plenty of opportunity to step away or call for backup before it got ttoo far...She sung 2 verses before they had to come in.
To the young mans defense that is an old song and unless you grew up in old school church like myself you wouldn't know it. BUT if you don't know the song play your part and keep the phone in your pocket!!! Thanks Marvin, Donnie etc for jumping in, putting pride aside and helping Sis. Karen out! RIP MaLinda!
I believe it is simply unconscionable to see a singer pull out ANY device other than that which is necessary for singing during ministry...funeral, service, performance, competition etc. its STILL suppose to be for the GLORY OF GOD!!! I am glad the stronger bared the weak but the weak are to be made strong by studying to show TRUE approval. I was taught by none other that Dr. Mattie Moss Clark on occasion and her words were "baby, just move your mouth!"
LOL....I learned this song at 16, how did these grown people not know it? lol It is what it is. Thank the lord for the ministers getting up there and helping.
Karen sang this song she is a great singer I love hearing her sing and her sister the Clark sister sing they are good she makes you move with her singing great voice
Lady Karen Clark Sheard - a fine example here of a consummate professional. She did not fall to pieces we can all learn from this and just continue to float when things in (any) part of our lives do not goes as planned, just float, don't stop - God will bring it all together. I felt the anointing of God.
Funny thing is he wasn't texting; he was searching for the lyrics. I think he had sense enough to know not to text at a time like that...lol... He, and others in the ensemble, were unsure of their part and instead of mumbling in a mic he sought the word. Thank God for humble saints who gladly got up and assisted!
KCS FTW! I am pleasantly pleased that the Vets got up to aide the young'ns in this song. To see so many great faces up there singing back up for KCS is simply amazing! Theres nothing God cant handle! Who cares if the younger folk knew the words. They were up there doing the Lords work
Praise God for such an anointed vessel...KAREN CLARK SHEARD!!!! To GOD be the glory. All this other stuff aside, thank you KCS for being a constant in the gospel community. God Bless the Sapp family...
It was wonderful. Marvin and company came and backed up the song, which made for a richer and more meaningful experience. God bless Pastor Sapp and Family.
I can watch this video everyday Karen did her thang and so did everyone else. I sure this song give the audience that was listen to it comfort because it give me comfort. when I need a friend i can go to the rock!!!!!!!!!!!
It was awesome to see that there is a need for a bridge to connect the next generation to what came in front of them. You also saw that no matter how much you rise to the top you can still have the humbleness to step out of the box and help someone in need (even if it's not your group, or you're not getting paid to do it). Now THAT is what the family of GOD is suppose to do. Our Heavenly Father is So proud of you guys. Love Always, Aunt Tammy To All
i just broke my laptop and tv listening to this... this makes no sense...this lady is a monster beast mega mother beast of all beast.... she made Marvin Winans shake his head and walk away...you know you did something... she killed it... and killed it..and then dropped the mic and said "Whitney that's how you sing it..." lol
@TempleSaint I can understand what you're saying. And I am VERY familiar w/ them. I just think with all circumstances considered (age, her crazy touring schedule (as a solo AND group member), her rough preaching, her sickness that really weakened her, her vertigo) she is a miracle case and hasn't really changed that much vocally.
I love how at first the young back up singers had NO clue what to sing. Then then DONNIE and SEVERAL other GOSPEL greats walk up to help. This is classic.. God bless Mr. Sapp and his family.
These guys sounded great on the songs they rehearsed.. chances are they were told at a moments notice to sing with her. You could tell even the band had no clue what song she was singing until she started... so hey, forgive them.. they were there to serve... and she still KILLED!
I love church when it's sponteanous. Like just get up there and praise God, it doesnt matter if people dont come in on the chorus at the same time just praise GOD!. We christains easily get carried away, focusing on how the singers sound and how the musicians play and we miss the point... yes great worship music is important but at the end of day whats important to God is that the musicians are 'worshipping' from their heart.
Thank God there were psalters on the podium who knew the song when the backup singers did not. Great comraderie and support. Love her voice. One of the best in the business.
It doesn't matter what song she sings…She rocks it everytime!!! I will always be a fan!! OMG. The lord didn't bless me with a voice like this b/c I would not be humble lol. Keep it up 1st Lady!! :)
This video is so moving, and inspiring! ThankyouJesus...."Lord you are truly worthy, when the earth all around me is sinking sand", "when you need a friend", "Nobody to talk to?, You can talk to Jesus!" All I can say is "SANG Sista SANG"!!!!!!
For those of you saying that it was a ''Shame'' that the ''Gospel Greats'' had to get on stage to help them, you're wrong because if you watch closely they were marching in as clergy men and were invited to join the other singers. That was a honor and privelege for them. Remember God Loves You!!
@GDHPRO right!!! They should know this, Whitney covered that on THE PREACHER'S WIFE SOUNDTRACK. That was a single that played and still plays on Gospel Radio.
this showed how great karen is..she still held her ground even with the background in and out...but funeral are unplanned sometimes..the singers & musicians had to prepare for all those songs....they God for the older saints that help us young musicians & singers
Sound system awesome, wonderful musicians. Lady Karen was in rare vocal form. She was wonderful- teaching and singing all at the same time. Young people today know that they can retrieve any kind of information immediately from a cell. Not so much quick thinking, more of a common aspect of their electronically accessible daily lifestyle?
I know I'm 10 years late but this is my first time seeing this video. Did I just see the whole pulpit get up and go to the mics to sing background for this sorry tail choir that don't know the words? What in the world was going on. Karen slayed though as she always does.
ill say this for what its worth,it makes no sense what so ever to be in a church and not know or have learned songs that was song back in the day,how do you think people got saved, delivered or set free, its these songs right there that took you through your darkest hour and brought you out with the victory. I wouldn't care if they grapped this man on their way in the church and say can you fill in were short of a singer,if you didn't know the song don't embarrass yourself and disrespect the family and get up their and pull out your phone, you standing right behind Karen, even though its bad to do that,it would made much sense if you were standing on the end or behind someone else. Now I have nothing against kirk franklin but instead of stompin all the time sit down long enough to get those old gospel songs for the soul in your soul,so you don't disrespect the house of God and his people like that.
+Exclusive3003 God is ever changing...he doesn't have to use the songs you used to get through to bring someone else through...don't belittle God like that. Get your life and get delivered.
Awesome! This is YET another reminder to those young and up coming musicians that they STILL need to go back and get to know those olds songs and hymns of the church!!! You see Donnie, Marvin and others had to jump in to help them...HOPEFULLY more up coming musicians see that and make a GREATER effort to learn ALL Gospel, not just the jump and bump stuff!!! EXCELLENT job!
