Are You Leaving for the Country by Karen Dalton from the album In My Own Time
Released 2013-07-05 on Light In The Attic
The late Karen Dalton has been the muse for countless folk rock geniuses, from Bob Dylan to Devendra Banhart, from Lucinda Williams to Joanna Newsom. Legendary singer Lacy J. Dalton actually adopted her hero's surname as her own when she started her career in country music.

Bob Dylan once wrote "My favorite singer ... was Karen Dalton. Karen had a voice like Billie Holiday and played guitar like Jimmy Reed" ... He was sure right ... Such a beautiful song ...

Great voice, tragic living. The two should not be inevitable, but it seems they are, sometimes.

I like this asa change (other album 1st?) a high production number for her. Just her, may B nother strings behind her I like (better? more? no, “am just more familiar with”, "more comfortable w/"). Nice fills’n adds here, significant of the times (even if they were germans, may B they werent). A’n R men (all ways ♂︎) were a hassle for artists. The music they sold they put into many boxes (definitions, sub ganeras, etc). She would not go for it. Paid her dues (2 divorces, kids, off the Rez by 19/21 y/o). They would not pick her up... all that promise... nope. She didnt fit in their boxes, they couldnt shove (“Play it this way squaw.” “We’r gunna add violins here, babe.”)
