Daycare workers have the CRAZIEST stories! Sierra Zagarri (‪@SierraZagarri‬) owns her own Indoor Playground which is KIND OF like a daycare, but also not. She tells us about some of the best and worst customers she has ever interacted with. We also get to shares some stories from daycare workers who follow the podcast and submitted them to us to read! We so appreciate everyone working in the childcare industry, and hope everyone gets a good kick out of this episode. REMEMBER, most of the parents childcare providers, teachers, nurses, etc. deal with are GREAT PEOPLE. BUT it is those… few bad apples that really ruin it for the rest of us, and give us these crazy stories to tell!

Her playroom is in St. Louis Missouri, which is like the murder capital of the United States. The cops thinking its a safe place for children and having such a high stress job, and seeing what they see on the regular, this was probably not a big deal in the bigger picture for them. They should definitely still take it seriously, but it is understandable as to how they could get there.
@aidenharper6013
@aidenharper6013 9 месяцев назад
So not to be confrontational but what job do you do? I ask because i guarantee you theres a part of your job that you find annoying, yet if you said that to people they would respond with something like "well isnt that your job tho?" Fact is that if your a cop in a city like St. Louis, a parent (or nanny) abandoning their children IS annoying. Imagine that now you know you have to spend the next however many hours not only babysitting but tryimg to find an irresponsible parent out of literally millions of people, AND you have to be polite to them when they show up and NOT start screaming at them. Id be hella annoyed too, and dont blame people with high stress jobs for not wearing kid gloves with people. If a cops annoyed, they have the right to show it, reust me you dont want them to bottle it up

As someone who nanny’s for a living I cannot FATHOM leaving my nanny kids somewhere PERIOD. Unless the parents told me that the people throwing the party specifically requested adults not stay and provided me a picture so I could make sure I handed off to the right person I would be there helping out and playing with my nanny kids. I don’t have kids of my own but I am an aunt and I give every kiddo I’ve ever watched the same level of care I give my nieces. Dumping them in a playroom without even checking everything is ok? Hearing the story about Finn having the playroom made me cry. My brother and I are glass siblings of our older sister (who we love dearly) and the label follows you for life. I’m 20, my brother turning 18 in a couple of months, and we’ve only in the past few years been tested and treated for ADHD, anxiety disorders, and depression-all of which were previously unnoticeable in the trials regarding my sister’s health and education, but definitely made our lives much harder to understand and cope with. While I never blamed her or my parents, it’s hard to see someone you love suffering while also being envious of all the extra care your sibling gets, especially when you have to sacrifice for their benefit, so hearing that this family put the effort in to give their glass child that opportunity in spite of all the challenges they face as a family really resonated with me.

@@AlexK-bu1njit's worth noting that in a lot of cases you have the disabled child, and then their sibling is the glass child. The term glass child is used to reference them barely being seen/noticed by the parent. I've never heard it where the disabled child is called the glass child (Coz there's already a term for them - disabled child) but maybe its regional or something?

As a parent, it's been my experience that most of the time when someone says "You can't judge, you're not a parent!" it's because they'd rather justify their bad parenting than maybe improve themselves.

Agreed. I don't have kids, but I was a child once. I know bad parenting when I see it. For example there was someone I knew who had two kids but let them fend for themselves while she smoked, drink, prioritized the state of her hair and her nails over actually raising her children to become well-adjusted, responsible adults. These kids had a horrible upbringing and often went without the bare necessities. They wore shoes that didn't fit, clothes that were too small, had no nutritious food to eat, lived in a house that looked like it belonged on Hoarders and often didn't have supplies for school. This lady was able to pull the down on her luck, trying to make ends meet card for quite a long while but kids often do grow up. They know when they aren't wanted. Her daughter moved out first and later went in the military. Her son eventually followed suit. Last I heard, their mother, now in her sixties, plays the victim all over social media wondering why “no one loves” her, rants about “what went wrong” with her life and laments about how she doesn't have a relationship with her grandchildren. Karma's a bitch.
@jmo53214.
@jmo53214. 7 месяцев назад
I think most parents are trying to do the right things, the bad part is when they act as though they are without sin and self improvement is something they can't be bothered with. In all things, I think people should be more humble and teachable. You're always learning, and that's the way it should That goes for parenting as well!!

Correct, and, It can also apply to the either "less" physically disabled sibling or the mentally-disabled-only sibling. As in, if there is a more physically disabled child(ren) or only one physically disabled child but another child(ren) with either more minor physical disability or only a significant mental impairment. For example, my brother always had a spinal impairment-- as a result, his physical and mental illness have always been and/or been seen as more serious and high priority than my just as debilitating chronic invisible physical illness and arguably realistically more severe mental illness.

You try so hard to give them that same attention, but you just can't... I tried to make it a point whenever possible to take him to do things expressly for him so he could be a 'normal' child, not being dragged along to 8 doctors appts a week etc... I did my job the best of my abilities however I was 17 and I had 11-year-old boys hitting on me and I went to the Director and I said hey this is happening I don’t like this this is uncomfortable and she looked at me and said stop dressing like a slut. I come from a conservative Christian home and what she said dressing like a slut was skinny jeans, but not overly tight and hoodies or sweaters or T-shirts that were like at my neck and again not overly tight but not baggy. She wanted me to continue for the rest of the year. I asked my Teacher the next day how many credits I had in that class and she said oh you have more than enough to pass this class and I said sweet as of the end of this month. I will give them two weeks but I’m done this is what happened I don’t wanna be there anymore. so I I gave my two weeks and I quit and then the Director asked me why and I told her exactly why and I had a spare the rest of the year this happened in October.

I still remember the time I got the "you don't have kids" argument for why I was wrong for trying to do the right thing. I was working as a cashier, and this mother comes through with her son. She tells me her son ran off on her earlier, and she had to get store staff to help her find him. Turns out he'd gone to ride our little 1c mechanical horse. Well, as she's telling me this story, I notice he's running towards the horse again. So I tell her "he's running towards the horse." She goes to grab him, then yells at me for "telling her how to parent her kid." I wasn't telling her how to parent, I was just letting her know so she didn't lose her child again. Well, 10 minutes later, my boss calls me to her office, and tells me it was inappropriate. She tells me that it doesn't matter what the situation was, I shouldn't have said anything, and that I can't possibly understand since I don't have kids.

Im glad you specified that your husband meant buying a social business in a pandemic was what he disagreed with, not you being a business owner. I know I can't be the only one who's ears perked up at that like "say what?" To be willing to fill that need and work specifically with possibly the most difficult age group of small kiddos is amazing. Bless you and all you do

I was an accident when I was 13 and became paralyzed. I’ve never heard of the term “glass sibling”, but it really wrenches my heart. I have two younger siblings. My sister has pretty bad mental health problems (bipolar + childhood anger problems), so my brother (the youngest) didn’t get the attention he deserved once he began middle school. My parents were dealing with relational problems as well. They ended up getting divorced and my siblings lived with my mom. Then, my mom went overseas for a job, so he had to live with my dad. My dad was having problem with his crazy girlfriend (she’s a therapist, which adds another level of crazy) so he ended up moving in with his best friends family (I’m pretty sure my dad ASKED him to move out…. It’s awful). It seems like they’re more of a family to him than we are. My sister and I are really trying to reconnect with him. They were always closer, ever since we were little kids. But now he doesn’t respond to any of our texts and my parents act annoyed by him not replying. I feel like they have a lot of work to do making amends. I don’t know what their relationship is like one on one, but I’m pretty sure his feelings of abandonment and disregard haven’t been addressed. I think it is easier for him to be surrounded by his friends, without the reminders of what it was like at home. I really hope we can become closer in the future. I think there is a lot of resentment, but I really just want to be an older sister he can rely on. He’s doing great and studying to be a doctor. I think it’s easier to just ignore our family and I don’t blame him.

My friend told me about how she went to a birthday party event where another mom she knew asked to her to watch her little girl for a few minutes. The mom walked up to her daughter talked to her quickly then walked away . The little girl was just quietly playing near my friend's children. A worker at this place , who must have seen the mom walk away from the girl, walked up to the girl and must have asked the girl about her mom, cause the next thing you hear is this girl going "I do not want to watch my mommy changing the baby's diaper again" .

After the last podcast where it was someone else in St. Louis, I was really hoping to see this collaboration and I got a recommendation for a new (to me) pizza place to try the next time I am able to make it back to the hometown. Then again it's hard to find a bad pizza in St. Louis (well there is one place but I'll leave it unnamed)
@Ljoyner97
@Ljoyner97 10 месяцев назад
As someone from the illinois side of the stl area I know the place you're referring to and almost died laughing! I need to make a trip back there for pizza and soulard market if nothing else.
@sarahp5003
@sarahp5003 10 месяцев назад
@@Ljoyner97 Oh yeah. I grew up going to That'sa Nice'a Pizza's original location in Concord Village since it was so close to where I was living as a kid and that was great, but that one chain of StL style pizza.... just no. Though the thing I miss most is the Italian. You cannot beat The Hill. And Lion's Choice, I really miss Lion's Choice.
@Ljoyner97
@Ljoyner97 10 месяцев назад
@sarahp5003 The hill has some of the best italian I've ever had. New York is the only other place I've been to that could rival it. However, the food there was so different that I can't really compare the two. I've never attempted to make stl style pizza before, but after this conversation, I may need to. That chain has the worst pizza and possibly the worst food I've ever consumed. My family didn't move there until a few months after I turned 7. Not knowing any better, we went to that chain our first day in the area when we went to house hunt. It took us at least a year to try stl style pizza again because we all thought the food at that chain was horrible. I remember thinking that my parents had lost it moving me somewhere that couldn't get pizza right. In high school I probably made up for that year of not eating stl pizza 5 times over, though, so it all worked out.

When my nephew was in kindergarten during covid times he decided he was just going to say what he thought was right. The teachers were asking about symptons, and asked if he was sick at all he said no. So they said so you dont have a little cough? He replied yes then they asked do you have a little sniffle again he said yes. They asked if he had a little headache and he again said yes. They called my sister and had her pick her son up. After she asked my nephew why he said all that when he wasn't sick. He said well mom im little so i have a little cough, i have a little sniffle and i get little headaches. Still to this day that makes me laugh, crazy they asked kindergarten kids about symptoms.

Small ones geared for babies and huge massive ones with space for everyone baby to elementary. Plus they have food and snacks plus a cafe for parents to enjoy a coffee. I love these. I really hope they spread more back home in the states. They’re awesome.

The retirement community I worked at had stray cats.. sometimes you’ll just see them run across in the employee parking lot. I was a camp counselor and I once had a camper ask her mom if she can bring me home with her. The little girl looked at me and said “You can be my honorary big sister” her mom had to tell her no and that I had a home of my own.

Hi, I’m brand new to your channel and have subscribed 😀 I loved listening to these stories! Sierra seems like she has a big heart in helping children in need and then continuing to do so. That’s amazing and not many businesses would do that because they’d miss out on revenue. A little bit of feedback, I would’ve loved to hear the ending of a couple of your stories too, especially the FBI one. The running joke in our family is if we get told we were brought up on goat’s milk, it means we’re butting in 😂 I think Sierra either was anxious and eager or had some goat’s milk. (said with love) 😂❤ I look forward to catching up on some of your other episodes. I’m glad the YT algorithm sent me the short. ❤

I just don’t understand the rage around the pride flag. Wouldn’t you want someone who owns a business like that to be clear about their values? It’s why some daycares have biblical quotes on the wall, so it’s clear they are associated w Christianity. Like don’t they want to be able to make decisions that are specific to their own families?

It’s weird and funny to me when we just get our kids to wear rainbows, people think we are forcing LGBTQ on our kids and it is like “No they are kids they like fking rainbows because cartoons have rainbows”. Fk off, let me and my kids live their life. If my kids want to be gays or lesbians in future fine but let them for once think that rainbows is something you see in the sky on a sunny rainy day
