Once I went out on a Service Call to a house I hadn't been to before. The customer had a NuTone Model 2090 System. I was chatting with the homeowner as I unscrewed the Master Station from the wall. When I tilted it off the wall, I spied one of my bright fluorescent orange shop labels on the chassis. I said to the customer "Oh, Look, I've worked on this one before" ~ His reply was "Well, I guess so, You guys have been there forever" - That made me feel good. . . .

That intercom of my daughters you fixed for us. I went last Summer to put it all back together. She is 1500 miles away from me. I had packed the transformers, the patch boards and other things in a box when I pulled the head unit, in 2019. So here I am with your freshly repaired head. I have it attached to the hinges at the bottom of the wall box. I ask for the parts box. She lost it. I only was there for 4 days. So we looked and looked. She was happy the big hole was filled (with the working intercom). She since asked for Bluetooth so got a module. Plan on getting it done in the Spring

Hmm i bet the drive belt was a bit wobbly. maybe the capstan roller and head needed a clean.

Hi zx8401ztv: As usual, the 2 belts had begun to disintegrate and turn into a black, gooey mess. It always takes time to clean the goo off of the pullies before new belts are put back in. At least in this IM4006's case - the belts hadn't wrapped around the motor pully, which prevent the motor from turning (while it's stuck in the on position) and burn the motor out. The biggest problem with broken belts, is when the cassette player fails in the "play" position - and the pinch roller is pressed up against the flywheel shaft. This creates a dent in the pinch roller, and when you paly a tape, it makes a thump - thump - thump sound every time the pinch roller goes around - Chris

Yes Ive seen pinch rollers with tiny dents in the rubber. Sounds horrible. Maybe putting the roller in hot water might reverse the compression. That black goo is horrible, Philips tape recorders were the worst.

I have had this same system in my house for well over 20 years now. And I don't think I have ever seen it work. I did take a look inside and the metal piece on one of the mother boards was extremely hot. So I unplugged it from power and have left it. And I want to repair it but I don't know where to start. Any helpful things to look up to start on my repair?
