Filmed by Sandy Butler during the making of Karine Polwart & Pippa Murphy's 'A Pocket of Wind Resistance', this is a live recording at Castlesound Studios, engineered by Stuart Hamilton, of 'Lark in the Clear Air’.
A Pocket of Wind Resistance was announced album of the year 2017 by both Songlines and BBC Radio 3 Late Junction, it has also been nominated for a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award 2018 for Best Album.

First heard Karine perform this on a Radio 4 programme a couple of years ago (Loose Ends?) And was blown away. Been looking for this for so long. So happy I found it. Thank you for capturing such a pure performance so well.

I so love it when traditional musicians reclaim 'art' songs, to deliver the heartfelt content in a more honourable way -- IMHO -- than many classically trained singers. (Just as a wee side-step, take a listen to Kenneth McKellar -- classically trained -- singing Handel's 'Say, have you seen my lady': an operatic voice which delivers the text in an emotionally connected way.)

The song, as published, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TQJ0pCKGsBM.html, is a 16 measure waltz (3/4 time). This interpretation is also 16 measures long, but it's in 4/4 time, and she takes liberty with the placement of the words, possibly consistent with folk-conventions.

I am wondering the same thing. I would love to know the name of this instrument and the tuning of the strings ... assuming lowest D to highest tuning, unlike ukelele. DGAD?

It's a tenor guitar. Mr. Google tells me it is often tuned in fifths C G D A (like a tenor banjo) but the alternative Chicago tuning in fourths DGBE (as baritone uke or guitar top 4) is sometimes used. DGBD and GDAE are also known.
