@@cryamistellimek9184 it’s also easier when you’re not turning every every benefit your empire can gain just because a non human made it. Big E canonically put himself in that throne because he fucked up in allowing all alien tech as evil that should not be used.
"I am Karl Franz, and I was born into this world, just like you. A world of unceasing war and endless terrors. But with a nation of men at its heart, a bastion of hope and courage: the Empire. Led by the craven, torn apart by the greedy, weakened and exposed, forever on the defense. But no longer. Now, we unite! To purge the evil that dares confront us! Follow me, and we will banish this darkness! I swear this as your Emperor!" Karl Franz, Prince of Reikland and Emperor of the Empire of Man.
Honestly, i like Karl Franz because he is a good man, thankfully GW didnt turned him into a grimderp Emperor like the other one, Karl feels refreshing to me. I also loved him in the Ulrika trilogy, he shows up for few pages but he steals all the atention
@@Artemisarrowzz true, i hope that Magnus gets a proper build up in the Old World, in Lore he appears out of thin air in Nuln but since the Old World starts a few years before the Great War against Chaos i hope we know more about him
Grimderp is just realpolitik most of the time lol, in reality Karl's lack of willingness to assume power would spell the end of his rise to the hands of those who were willing & able to take the throne by any means; if not him just being assassinated the moment his father dies. Laggards and second-guessers don't last long in a power-vacuum, much less one for an empire; and this guy needed someone else to convince him, such is his lack of self-confidence. If anything, him turning out to be some master statesman behind it all is grimderp (or at the very least, derp)
@@KevinJohnson-cv2no its not a power vacuum, its the Empire choosing a new Emperor like always, Boris Toddbringer didnt inmediately won because many of the southern provinces dont like Middenheim, no one in the Empire had a reason to assassinate Karl (and the enemies of the Empire wouldnt care that he doesnt want to be the Emperor, he would be an Elector Count so if he was a target being the Emperor of not wouldnt change that)
The only Empire-Bretonnia war within Karl's reign I found on the wiki 1. Happened in 2512, which is 10 years after his coronation 2. Was led not by Louen, but by the duke of Parravon 3. Was caused by Marius Leitdorf calling the duke's wife ugly (because she is)
Marius Leitdorf's exact words upon first seeing the duchess of Parravon (which he yelled at the top of his lungs): "Troll! Troll! Oh Sigmar help me! it's a troll!" Based.
An artillery line helps. Though if the crew has no will and can’t tell what end of the shell goes first or even what direction to point the gun you are in about the same situation as an elite Xeno against a named Space Marine without a helmet.
@@frostbyte2384 Well that artiliery line dosent exist for long without the iron will of that line of Halberds and the officers that command them. If the enemy can have giant mosters and demons than I think its only fair we have cannons to level the playing field.
I recall a scene from when Orion saved the life of Franz. That battle was actually caused by the Asrai flooding a river to get the beastmen to piss off and about halfway through the Asrai were getting ready to return to Athel Loren and leave the lumber foots to their fate. As they were getting ready to leave one of Orion's outriders asked how long could this world endure if they let heros like Franz die. Orion looked at her with so much anger she feared he was going to strike her down on the spot. Orion then laughed smiled and proceeded to blow the horn of the wild hunt the loudest it's ever sounded, before fighting his way to the unconscious form of the emperor. For hours and through his current incarnation taking several borderline mortal wounds Orion defended the fallen emperor until the minotaurs consumed in their bloodlust failed to see that the rest of the warheard had routed and were subsequently cut down. For as long as the weave endures so shall the Empire. Long Live Athen Loren, Long live the Empire! (yeah in case you haven't noticed I'm a bit of a hippy stand sue me)
What about Magnus the Pious. The man that reunited the Empire after about three hundred years of civil war, got the blessing of all the major gods of the Empire and then killed the Everchosen. All without having Galmaraz or a Runefang.
Imagine the faces of those soldiers as they watch Karl split the skull of the warchief, the entire field of armies shocked out of their gourd. Then the slow and climbing roar, rippling out from every man. Their eyes burning bright and their minds made clear and true. The entirety of their rage and fury barreling down on the orks, now properly frightened at the sight.
Emperor Karl Franz I, Protector of the Empire, Defier of the Dark, Emperor Himself and the Son of Emperors, Elector Count of Reikland and Prince of Altdorf. Can't but love him. Hoping my players will get to meet him in our WFRP game.
The girl in the picture is Katerina Todbringer, the daughter of Graf Boris Todbringer. Its a long story, but in short in 2512 she became his niece-in-law. See the Wathammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th edition Enemy Within campaign part 5: Empire in Ruins The gentleman standing behind them is Ludwig Schwarzhelm aswell if anyone was curious
@@chheinrich848640k is like something I’d come up with as a kid. I just think stories that try to be as over the top as possible are lame, too much scaling just desensitizes the reader imo.
@@mr.raider7865 Back then, Big E was a fucking legend and couldn't be compared... not anymore. Have Karl Franz exist as he was before the End Times and give the GW beating of a lifetime throughout Age of Sigmar. Then you can compare
@@syrienangel4137 Big E was always a pretty suspect character. Even when 40K was new, dude was a corpse on a throne who needed human sacrifices to live. In any other science fiction universe, he would be the villain.
@Kolbo Not really? In any other science fiction, he would still be the good guy. Back then he was a genuinely good character. Loved his sons, loved humanity, both individual and whole. Do you remember why they sacrifice people to him? Not because they want to, but because they would fucking die or worse of they didn't and that would be the end of humanity.
There has been rumors that GW might bring back the original Warhammer universe (maybe to exist as an alternate universe alongside Age of Sigmar?) If so, that would be fantastic as I really love the incredible history of the Empire.
Rumors? The Old World is almost a reality at this point. Unless you mean making the Endtimes non-canon and relegating Age of Sigmar to alternate dimension(where it belongs: most likely afterlife)?
@@goransekulic3671 I've been out-of-the-loop due to health issues, so this is good news. Last time I was thoroughly up on Warhammer cannon (no pun intended) was in the early teens, nearly a decade ago. So, yeah. Glad to hear that the Old World is coming back. Of course, for Blood Bowl fans, it never actually left.
Karl Franz a mortal man in a world with everything even the rats outclass you in every respect but with faith steel and gunpowder and a big hammer keeps the empire standing he is our prince and emperor, best character in warhammer lore and the total war games
Corrupt Electors: "Boris Goldgatherer for emperor!" Skaven: "Nah." Mandred Skavenslayer: "Hey, thanks!" Skaven: *"SQUUEEEE, NONONONONO!"* Seriously, the old Warhammer fantasy universe was chock full of fantastic history. We really need this world back.
Elector Counts. Wulfrik (Nordland): hehe a challenge! Vlad (Sylvania and Stirland): Oh hello Franz what's up with the call bud? Gelt (Solland): Who calls? Elizabeth: Hello my lord Franz. I missed you and want to help. Franz: fine. Hello again Tod. Todbringer: hello strange day we have in our hands Leoncoeur; indeed. Vlad: all right spit it out. Orion are warned and prepared the ambush. You ready guys and Lizy? Elector Counts: say no more.
I just discovered your channel, you got me laughing tears haha. You got a sub! I like Warhammer Fantasy but I generally love all the Lore stuff for just how bonkers it is haha
Here's something that might reinforce your theory that call Karl Franz IS the celestin prime, the Holy Roman Empire which the Empire of Man was based on was NOT an empire at least not a traditional. Though most of its history especially after the end of the Carolingian dynasty, it was more or less a confederation of smaller German kingdoms (specifically principalities, dukedoms, counties, ect.) which were usually operated autonomously. If they wanted an "emperor", all the nobles in each kingdom of the empire would from sort of a parliament (Imperial Diet) and start an election in which the winner would become emperor. In practice, the emperor would operate much like a "king of kings" akin to the pre-islamic dynasties of Iran.
It's been many years since I've read Enemy Within for WFRP 1st edition, but as I recall Karl Franz was portrayed as a statesman and a politician, not a warrior. Him being the chosen of Sigmar and an absolute badass who solos giants came later.
People always argue that it's boring to play humans in a fantasy setting like this, and I understand that argument; but it is so *fucking satisfying* to send monsters, demons and beasts into broken retreat with just some steel, gunpowder and a little faith.
That's all well and good and I highly respect the Karl Franz. You're not wrong in saying he's basically the best person ever in the Warhammer fantasy universe. But I still doesn't exactly explain why he didn't pardon Felix Jaeger. Surely somebody as important as him probably heard about the crazy things that him and Gotrek were up to over the years, quite frankly you'd think that he might hire Felix and Gotrek for a few incredible feats that might certainly get them killed too. After all Felix turned down the ability to run the family business in Nuln from his brother.
Karl Franz wouldn’t have allowed the Horus Heresy to happened which is why GW swapped the universe of Emperor of Mankind with him because it was a rule. It’s a true fact, look up Karl Franz Rule 34.
I never cared about Warhammer Fantasy until I saw the Karl Franz trailer for the first Total War game. And it alone sold me not just on the Empire, but on Karl Franz superiority
Thanks to your highly enlightening and entertaining videos i see that fantasy is a lot much better than childish gothic world of WH40k. Best is Fantasy and Karl is indeed the best emperor that can have.
I've been wanting to hear you talk about him for a while now that I've been listening for a bit grinding them all as my fandom allows. I know a lot of the universe but nothing of this guy
I... would absolutely die laughing if it turned out the Lord-Celestant turned out to be a Bretonian. Not just any of them, either. The single most insufferably Bretonian individual to ever exist: Louen Leoncoeur. I would never buy a single thing from AOS if they did something that asinine, of course, but it would be pricelessly funny
Devil's advocate: when Karl died, his entire kingdom, along with the rest of the planet, blew up. When Big E died, sure, he lost part of the empire physically, and most of it spiritually, but the empire remained, and seems to be coming back a little. Has that just been bad GW writing? Maybe, but that describes most faction plot lines on a grand scale. I still prefer Karl to Big E, of course.
Wait what, they just killed leouncuer, like the legendary king of the horsefrickers just died as a foot note, a random nurgle demon with two guys on his back kills louencuer then moves on and kills karl franz bullcrap
It saddens me greatly to know that GW probably hasn't learned anything from their failure with WHFB and will likely just repeat the same easily fixable mistakes when they finally put out TOW.
