I never ran into Lagerfeld's brand of "shade"...but I dig how he conveys it. Basically, he's saying "go ahead dahling...you can ACT smart all you like...but Im still up here...and YOU are still down there"

A person who is good at one thing and dedicated to it is one of the best things that can happen to one and the world. Sadly that doesn’t always happen. Most of us think we are good at many things when in fact we are good at none.

I love this clip and I often quote Karl Kagerfeld on the distinction he draws between “fake intellectuals” and actual “dressmakers.” He could be quite unpleasant eg about other designers and “art directors” yet here he kindly doesn’t name those of whom he disapproves instead examples by name of those he holds in (good) esteem. He was himself apparently extraordinarily well read, making the comment here about dressmakers who present themselves as “philosophers” all the more powerful. (Rest in peace.)
