Karl Stamitz Concerto for Clarinet and Violin in B flat major 1. Allegro 2. Andante moderato 3. tempo di Minuetto Josef Suk Violin Ludmila Peterkova Clarinet The Prague Philharmonia Jiří Bělohlávek Conductor
Great recording of great clarinet (not so much violin) music beautifully interpreted by Ludmila & Josef under great conductor, who just 3 days ago passed away! May Jiri Belohlavek requiescat in pace !
Stamitz was the head of the so-called Mannheim school and orchestra, an avant-garde group of their time. Mozart learnt a lot from them. They experimented a lot, as for instance this double concerto for clarinet and violin.
Wilfried Berk I knew I had heard the melodies before, but could not identify where. Thanks for this. You wouldn't know if there was an arrangement for electric guitar and bass clarinet, would you?LOL
Indeed - a "mozartian" concert in the whole structure. But the Master was the Master, which makes this piece freshly delightful, composed, but that is as long as Stamitz could go under the Amadeusian shadow....
A surprise. I have heard many works for clarinett from Carl Stamitz, but this concerto for clarinett and violin is new for me. Is this an orginal or an arrangement ? A pretty amusing piece, but Stamitz had the bad luck to live almost in the same time as Mozart, who setteld the clarinett on a very high level.
Thank you very much for your kind comment and interesting. I read nothing in internet, or on booklet that Karl Stamitz composed concerto specially for violin and clarinet in list of his works. There is writen for violin and clarinet or for 2 clarinets. Karl Stamitz composed many concertos for 2 instruments. I found only in IMSLP Concerto for Clarinet and Violin in B flat major. Publisher Sieber, n.d.[1777], Instrumentation: Solo: clarinet, violin/clarinet Orchestra: strings with ad lib. 2 oboes, 2 horns I wish you beautiful week ! imslp.org/wiki/Category:Stamitz,_Carl_Philipp
+Berrnt Ortner I think Sabine Meyer has recorded this, but truthfully, I like this rendition better. The blend with the violin is seamless. Absolutely lovely in every respect! (I am a clarinetist, too.)
