I'm trying to figure out how Nick had enough mana for delayed blast fireball. I get his treasures were turned back on, but he surely didn't have enough, right?

It wasn't announced in game but Face-Breaker gave me 6 treasures that turn due to double strike which gave me more than enough to cast it.

@@Theronxz Forgot to count the treasures created that turn. Spikes dominate cEDH, Johnny's occasionally stumble their way into a win in a cEDH game, but it was nice seeing a truly Timmy Stompy deck take the cake at a cEDH table :)

@JayCat I believe I did if I remember correctly. Couldn't use them until that pesky Karn was off the table. So I would have had 8 treasures after that combat. I almost forgot about the face-breaker triggers and passed the turn.

Death by their own Consecrated Sphinx greed is even more shameful when we remember that they both CHOSE to draw their entire libraries... that's probably why they want to erase that game from their memories.

Leave it in play so he maybe takes 3 damage per turn. As noted above artifacts are shut off Edit: just watched the next turn, and he ended up destroying it anyways… so yeah I’m not 100% sure on his thoughts there now

I'm confused how the Animar player didn't win turn five after getting library in hand. They should've had the combo and just seemingly didn't go for it? They should only need to get animar counters up to four and cast cloudstone curio right? Can't see their list, but feels like they could have had it. They also paid 3 mana for drake on a random token for some reason?

How did Alex stay alive after that Jetmir attack? Nick had most of his creatures pumped by +6/+3 and they had trample and double strike. Even attacking with 3 creatures and the token would come out to about 42 power without taking the creatures stats into account. He definitely blocked and then immediately died after but even then it seems like no one should have lived after that combat.

The attacks weren't narrated correctly. I had to hit cal with one more creature to kill him. So it was only 32 damage going towards Alex and he had 5 toughness on board.

It does not, mana value is determined entirely by the printed mana cost, not what you actually end up paying

The end of that game 1 was something. The greed of the Sphinxes players was funny. Also, the second game was a Blast. Im not sure I like the card in a scenario where it is not easy to cheat the big cost, but it is certainly a card I could see in deck that could abuse it like Pako/Haldan

Ok honest question not a criticism. In game 2, Cal casts Mox Diamond and discards an island, then misses a land drop. I see people do this a lot. Why not play the island? I didn’t see any metalcraft or affinity etc. that would make the Mox better. Sure, in a 4-5c deck Mox is better, but in a 2c deck I think I’d prefer a land

You either get a blue source or a 5 color source. The immediate availability of those colors is why it’s the better choice.

@@PlayingWithPowerMTG I agree if you're playing a 3+ color deck, but for Nymris not so much. It's a small difference, but it's +1 for an opponent's dockside, gets turned off by Ouphe effects, gets hit by Cyc Rift etc.

...why? Is that worse than "I'll counterspell your counterspell?" Or "I cast autumn's veil in response?" Are you upset at the price of the card or the fact that multiple players are using the best counterspell in the format?

@@jakemaxwell3810 Because free countermagic defies and sullies the identify of blue in this game. Blue is all about careful planning and intellect and yet cards like force of will exist to say "don't think, just power-game". Why is blue the most hated color in magic? Because it's best cards are long overdue for a ban... in my opinion.
