Parts of this video have rendered terribly, and I'm sorry. I'll do better next time. ;)

Wow! This is a very impressive video who shows how mother nature can be abundant. I floated down the entire Karluk several times. First time in September 2009. During this trip, the Sockeyes were so abundant that the river was literally boiling in some places... Great memories! The Karluk is definitely a truly amazing and unique place on earth. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Amazing video. I’ve floated the stretch from the portage down to the lagoon in October 1994 for steelhead. The fishing was phenomenal. We probably hooked and released 150-200 fish in 5 days. How far below the lagoon is the weir?

The weir is roughly 1/4 mile above the upper lagoon.

It’s unfortunate more of these fish weren’t harvested in the ocean for people food.

In 2020, commercial fishermen in Alaska harvested over 59 million pink salmon. The Kodiak Management Area alone accounted for nearly 22 million pink salmon. That's a lot of fish, to be sure. For fisheries managers, it's always a delicate balance of providing fishing opportunity while allowing enough salmon upstream to spawn and continue to have healthy salmon populations. When in doubt, managers will err on the side of conservation every time.

I agree that ADFG does a great job managing for adequate escapement while allowing harvest. Sometimes more fish than are needed for spawning (and the bears) get past the commercial fleet which is unfortunate because the world needs protein.

Yeah in 50 years there won't be any fish in this river because they were all used for "people food"
