She always say swim big and ugly but it’s not ugly at all. Hearing that gave me a peaceful, unpretentious and enlightened feeling. Really appreciate her presence in the swimming world and her guidances.

new to proper swimming style, you have the cleanest most natural style I have ever seen, for me its looks like ballet, I hope someday to see you in person and take a few lessons, keep up this great work

holy smokes! I watched some of her other videos and when she said that keeping your arms to close together (in the superman position) you wont get nearly as much stability or power....that your arms should be a tad wider than shoulder width (not her exact words). Not only did I have more power, my breathing improved, during the recovery phase my other arm didn't sink like it used to (as it also did while taking a breath), I also had more energy to enjoy a longer and more relaxed swim. Just learning how to swim at 59 (and working real hard at it) you don't want to injure yourself and you want to have fun while learning something new. Karlyn is my swimming guru!

Hi Karlyn it is always a pleasure watching your technique, I tried your wide and straight arm hand recovery technique it made me more relaxed in water and improved my breathing but I think it slowed me little bit

Karlyn ... you might know some of my friends / all swimmers --- Chuck Baldwin , Mike Austin ( gold "64 " Olympics ) & Mike Reed ( English , 34 English Channel completions - Hall of Famer ) . But the friend i know you know is Bill W. . I have 34 years in the " Easy Does It " program . I'm still swimming & try constantly to make every golf swing a good one ....... always an athletic life ! Congratulations on your recovery , that is primary importance . Paul

You just taught me something new And I have been coaching for 50 years Keep arms wider than shoulders so you do not wiggle---/ saw another of your videos I think that the swimmers now keep a more relaxed hand ( claw the water) And of course more dolphining off the wall But you have a great catch Going to watch more!!

What a perfect video, showing the modern underwater high elbow catch, with extended glide technique. Curious about the straight arm recovery, and how it would affect the rotator cuff after extended years? Thanks for posting.

How did you get your technique to be this good?
@SLL43
@SLL43 13 лет назад
Wow. Your swimming skills are incredible. Correct me if I'm wrong, I noticed that you have a slightly negative buoyancy like most people with a high muscle mass. But your breathing is very good. I too have negative buoyancy, and I find it hard to get a good breath when doing freestyle. Are there any drills or tips you could pass on to me? Thanks.
@satishnarayan1322

Maybe because of the head position a bit too high. I use speedo centreline snorkel to correct my body in line and have an accurate catch. My principle is use the snorkel to the best of your advantage so I get a good breathe of air without having to stick the neck out. It has corrected my body position as well as having a high elbow catch. Just my theory , correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I am a noob to proper swimming, instead of drowning with style: How can she swim under the water like that? without being that far up on the surface (might be camera setup/refraction) and when you push off, is it better to push down and as deep as possible, or skim across the top of the water?
