The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak. comprises a vast mix of decayed temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings. Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic period, although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. (wikipedia)
I spent two days in Karnak exploring on my own, and the site is amazing. Firstly, it's massive, and can easily take a day just to see a part of it. Much is still buried or under excavation by research teams from all around the world.

You are so very lucky that they let you in to so many restricted areas.. When my husband and I went in August, we did not see all the things you did. Thank you for sharing this film because I was able to see things I had not seen when in Egypt.

Thanks for watching. Yes I had a lot of access to many places simply by paying a few dollars usually 2-3$ or 10 EGP. The local watchers keep an eye our for people who they think will appreciate seeing something that's off limits. It doesn't always pay to brush them off. I'm glad you got to go to Egypt and that you enjoyed this video!

My gosh, I had no idea that Karnak had originally been built with multiple level buildings. I don't even recall seeing stairs there. It is only possible to imagine what this place must have been like in its heyday! I definitely never saw any coloured chambers there - I hope you tipped them well! You took colour footage of one of the cat gods .. with the sun disk I'm guessing it's Sekhmet? Well done!

They say it's several things. Time and erosion. Looting. Other historically documented events and just overall forgetting. It actually doesn't explain a lot of the mysteries of the site. The destroyed and crumbly granite. The core drills. The high precision of granite statues. Thanks for watching.

I enjoy your videos immensely... thanks for sharing. Fantastic work. This one showed me parts of this temple I have never seen before. I'd like to share with you also: Granite, although very hard, extremely resistant to many forms of tooling and while being immensely heavy and strong, can become surprisingly weak and brittle, especially after being cut, improperly sealed (or having the seal worn off by the elements over time), and then exposed to water, heat and cold. The minerals that make up granite can rust, the surface may become porous and is susceptible to erosion from water and even bacteria - which is why poorly treated and finished granite is not a good thing for bench tops and food working surfaces. Bacteria love to permeate and destroy granite! The feldspar in the granite is sometimes eventually turned into clay if moisture is present. The fissures that are present or created from this process lead to cracking, breakage, flaking, and even more fissures as the material ages. I've worked on stone restoration on cemetery monuments that are less than 100 years old (since being cut and finished) that have displayed these symptoms and results. I've seen older worked stone that displays the extreme fissures and cracking you showed us. I've seen fresh cut granite, with permeable exposed surfaces and from reliable seams, that crumbles very much like sandstone and dry clay - exactly as you have demonstrated in this well filmed and described video. I don't want to pour rain on your parade (or water on your granite), but what you are demonstrating is reasonably typical behavior that would *sometimes* (but not always) be expected on cut stone that has been exposed to elements that naturally act as an erosive agent on all exposed-to-the-surface minerals. I've even seen crystals in freshly cut and polished granite that have popped out from the surface from the heat of the sun (granite is extremely conductive to heat and absorbs it, getting so hot it will burn you badly). The crystal expands and ejects. This in turn weakens the stone around it causing brittleness and flaking. There's no doubt that these monuments were astoundingly built and crafted. It really defies the imagination at times. However, in my opinion, the sad degradation of the materials is one of the pitfalls and realities of working with it. Please keep up the fantastic work of taking your viewers on these amazing journeys, and for speculating on the origins of the things you witness and experience. Questions are the only things that require answers. Never let your curiosity wither! Peace.

+Wangavision thank you for the amazing comment. I really appreciate when people tell me they really like my movies and work, just makes for a great day. You make some really good points about the granite stone and all that other stuff. I have zero training in archaeology and geology, but it's nice to share opinions and get feedback like yours. I hope people can make the trip out there themselves and really just see the amazing sites off of themselves. Have a wonderful day!

Thanks Igor. I like that your videos are steady, inquisitive and clear. The point of view aspect is really immersive also. Sometimes we don't have to be 'qualified' to be knowledgeable. I have watched literally hundreds of personalised videos on Egypt, by travellers and sharers like yourself. Yours are some of the best ones, without a doubt (along with your other adventures) - certainly up there in the top 2 percent! I am enamored with Egyptian engineering and architecture, and the motivation behind the great need for them to be built, and it's videos like yours that make my interest more fulfilling.

3:19 not a good look. You seem to be prying at a loose part of the granite. We are very lucky to have these in situ (sort of) outdoor museums, but people PLEASE keep your hands to yourselves. I know accept that Igor was probably not actually trying to pull the piece loose and it may seem like "c'mon its granite, it won't break!" but the fact that the crack is there proves that it CAN break, and you do not want to be That Person. Still, you brought some great memories back. Thank you!

LOGIC the Truth Yes. Really the local watchers just ask for a few dollars to take you behind locked doors. Everyone does it and you do no harm. The statue of Sekhmet towards the beginning was behind a close off area and it scared the crap out of me. I got a terrible "get out now" feeling and left. There was a French team working there but they were on lunch so I waved to them and walked right in. Gave the watcher 10 EGP and he let me in. Karnak is huge, I was there twice and still didn't see every little secret.

Very nice detailed video. Thank you very much. Just a little thing. You know what ? All the mistry will end, if they would have admitted that either egyptian civilization is less older or iron age is much older than we are taught. Because it seems to be a lie. No wheel, no iron, but, here you are, take it - this is vast ancient Egyptian civilization. Simply doesn't fit. So show the truth. In india we are still jaw dropping amazed by our 1500 to 500 hundred years old temples. We don't lose our tourists. Instead, we are happy to explain our real history. Nobody is fool. Tourists spend money, come to the spot, to know the place and it's history, not to guess.

Enjoyed the video thank you and what they did back then was absolutely amazing and almost perfect in every way the small lines carved side by side without breaking the one they just did is amazing. I am sure those were first created 10 to 20k years ago when the stones were maybe softer at one time then hardened over thousands of years or how in the hell can a human being do this work it has to be from another world or non humans who walked the earth at one time and killed themselves off like we are doing today eventually we will kill each other off

Mahalo for the your great video tours. They're very informative and gives the rest of us the courage to maybe take a trip to Egypt. I was wondering could the big stone that is in the center of resonating temple room possibly be a meteorite? The crumbling of the black granite makes your mind just bounce all over the place.
@IgorTravelsTheWorld
@IgorTravelsTheWorld 8 лет назад
I believe you're referring to the stone in the chamber that is Hatshepsut temple. I think if it was a meteorite, it would have been quickly identified as one. As far as I've been told it's black granite. The crumbling black granite on the outside of the temple is the really strange thing. In my opinion it was encased in the black granite and was knocked or blown off somehow causing it to crumble in your hand.

34:00 The ganite is falling apart with the reaction of rubbing together. Moh 7 can destroy moh 7. Try that with all moh scales. Quarts destroy quarts vice versa. What I see that I cannot explain however on the black granite, it look like shocked rubble. But differentiating in one direction. ( like meat against the grain , yeah? ) Check to see if the larger black granite blocks that have not been moved, and if the grain points in the same direction.

I think those bad carved hieroglyphics could due to two or more groups of people working together. One is stonemason, they are masters of stone, they cut carve and polish stone objects perfectly but those hieroglyphics were the works of priests ( or any group who can read and write). As we all know, that in ancient Egypt, there are very few people who are able to read and write. Therefore after finishing statues, they have to ask priests who are obviously not masters of stone to carve the hieroglyphics. Thus, hieroglyphics looks relatively low quality compare to the rest of the stone works.

By the 4th century CE Egypt was a part of the Roman Empire and Christianity was being promoted as the one true faith. The emperor Constantius II (337 - 361 CE) ordered pagan temples to be closed in 336 CE and the Temple of Amun was deserted. Coptic Christians made use of the building for church services, as evidenced by Christian art and inscriptions on the walls, but then the site was abandoned. It was rediscovered during the 7th century CE Arab Invasion of Egypt at which time it was called "Ka-ranak" which means 'fortified village' because of the enormous amount of architecture amassed in one area. ..........So Xtianity destroyed this massive Temple! How many civiliztions has it erased in the name of a dead body on a cross?!

I think the pillars were made buy digging the pit, lay the floor and retaining walls, set the pedestals and first section of the pillar, bring sand into the pit to raise the floor to set the next section of the pillar and repeat until all is complete than remove the sand and you have the complete pillars.

question you must ask is: with what kind of tool Egyptians cut, drill, carve granite, definitively not with bronze chisel and copper saw , so the question remains unanswered , only possible explanation is aliens , tools used were so much more advanced than ours
@IgorTravelsTheWorld
@IgorTravelsTheWorld 8 лет назад
+francois clermont i prefer to keep it on this Earth with no outside human contact. Keep the achievements to our species. That being said. No one knows. The tools are either buried still or in pieces and unknowingly scattered across museums. We must keep looking.

@IgorTravelsTheWorld 8 лет назад
Agreed. All pertinent questions. My guess they had some kind of machines that maybe we just can't understand or fathom today. Perhaps something that could harness solar energy and create a hot beam. Perhaps ultrasonic tools. Truly hard to say.
@unitybonez
@unitybonez 7 лет назад
francois clermont It is definitely unanswered, but aliens aren't needed to complete the picture. If you take the cosmic cycles in consideration and place the building of the most precise structures in the golden age you can still attribute them to humanity, which at the time where at the pinnacle of advancement. The error academics make is thinking of our civilisation as the most technologically advanced in the whole history of our race, but this is wrong on a number of levels, first of which is in relation to our understanding and respect, or lack thereof, of nature and its fundamental laws. What is clear looking at pyramids, like you mention, is the unbelievable level of precision in their construction and if you read the research of people like Chris Dunn what becomes apparent is that their technology was in balance with nature, while ours is in complete contrast with it. It's a diametrically opposite mind set and the reason why we tend to think aliens were involved. The technology is alien to us, but it could still be human, to a level of conciousness we have to work extra hard to bring back.
