I have seen them saying mahabharata itself doesn't exist but not sure how they believe in ravanan alone😂... I just completed watching Karnan yesterday and I noticed the following things: 1. According to Mahabharat, Draupadi rejected Karan and insulted him when he wanted to participate in her swayamvar. But in Karnan, the girl Draupadi likes Karnan and he doesn't even notice that in the beginning. 2. The police officer is beating up people from Karnan's village in front of Babasaheb Ambedkar's picture. It might be done to show the hypocrisy of the society. A police station is respecting a lower caste person but disrespecting other lower caste people at the same time. The other interpretation can be the disrespect faced by Babasaheb himself in his struggle. 3. Karnan is having a sword and rides horse. Here there can be multiple interpretations. The first is lower caste people aren't allowed to carry a sword and ride horse but Karnan is doing it. The second reason can be connected to Mahabharat. In Mahabharat, Karan's adopted father was a horse rider. 4. When Karnan and others destroy the police station, Babasaheb's picture is shown again. They are fighting back against the system the way Babasaheb did. 5. A donkey is tied in the beginning of the movie. Karnan notices this but is advised not to free him. The donkey is Karnan's anger against the injustice. Karnan frees the donkey and unleashes his anger at the same time. The donkey and Karnan both feel free. All these are my opinions only. They might be right or wrong.

8:21 At first his father refuses him from going back. But after sometime when Karnan anyway decides to go back we get to see his father stopping Karnan and giving him the sword and making sure that he doesn't go into the war unarmed. Just after this particular moment we get to see Karnan's father sitting there smiling and watch Karnan go. And he then turns back to his daughter (coming from the water)with the same smile. His daughter claps at him. I think it's actually his daughter who changed his mind from restraining Karnan. Thus the father looks back at her telling her that he had done what she told him to do and the daughter is applauding her father's act. So, for me this scene justifies the earlier scene which shows the connection between Karnan's father and his sister.

Yes. But Bharadwaj Rangan was trying to say that it could have been done differently. I mean the spirit entering his body and making him realize it than Karnan realizing it. That could have been fantatastic as well....
@kiransp5510
@kiransp5510 3 года назад
@@aneeshs113 yep bro I got that. But the subtility in this scene gave me more impact. As the connection was established earlier. Now she can communicate with her father in many ways. Also in here the girl must have also wanted to see her father change his stand (be man up in Karnan's language) and act brave. So her spirit coming in his body will again register as she telling Karnan to go. What if she wanted her father to instead??? The whole scene worked like that for me.
@4mash2ash
@4mash2ash 3 года назад
Sir, the whole film though clothed with a story , with a hero ,his family, friends and love.... I strongly believe that the director uses even those to symbolically convey a message. The hero here symbolises the courage, anxiety ,and pain in the new generation of a downtrodden society , the father is the symbol of an older generation , each of who are reluctant to do something about their fellow men's plight but worried only about their own even though each had suffered ( symbol of a daughter in the form of a spirit) in some way by the society that has ostracized them. But when the new generation is ready to up rise against the evil so the older generation not only has to relent but give them courage( the sword ) and support.

My opinion : All the children wearing masks were killed without knowing the reason or problems around them. These pure souls became true gods of that very village with actual faces rather than the headless budhdha which has no identity. These gods guide the people towards freedom. But Lal on the other hand sacrificed him for the greater good.So showing him standing near the Gods will be a misleading narrative I guess.

I strongly disagree with the fact that Rangan puts forth with his statement that the love portion with Rajisha Vijayan is unwanted and could have been flushed down. Without the love track, the character of Karnan would have had scenes that only show his anger and angst and we as the audience couldn't have connected with him. The whole climax wouldn't have been hard hitting as much if we didn't connect with the main character. Otherwise, the review is awesome as always. And Rajisha Vijayan's performance was good too.

I felt pain and anger against the people I call relatives, friends ,family and neighbors after seeing this movie . that is the victory of this movie and its director But that is not the reason I bat for him. he did make movie with a panache! A true talented film maker. I can write a booklet with all the symbols he is used , with a 'purpose' and not overdoing it as this reviewer states Not taking anything from them if balachander sir ,balumahendra sir and mahendran sir could be called master craftsmen because of the way the treated their craft( true, they earned their credentials, ). Their movie making was unique . so does mari. No exaggeration but he can be put in the same bracket as those veterans. Pardon me if I hurt some sentiments. The above said men spoke of relationship and conflicts between individuals and their inner conflicts and how those affect the community as a whole , but here is a director speaking of relationship and conflicts between communities, which is true and existing and affecting all of us even now. And he is doing it so beautifully. Pls gave him his due. HE IS HIGH CLASS . pun not intended

Just finished watching the movie. Ngl. This is the best movie from our Tamil Cinema since Soorarai Pottru. Karnan was an intense, violent, haunting yet powerful film made by Mari Selvaraj and Performed by Dhanush. First Applause to Mari Selvaraj for taking such a Hard Hitting subject. He created an imaginary world and allowed us to roam with his characters. Karnan and his villagers doesn't even looks or sounds like actors, as they were filmed in such a lively method by DOP Theni Eswar. Dhanush literally carried the whole movie with his eyes, shoulders, Hand, Legs etc. Dude was just more than an actor. Santhosh Narayanan was the Back Bone. He composed a BGM which was both smooth and haunting at the same time. The Bloodshed in Fight scenes was spine chilling. Props to those make up artists. Karnan was a good movie. I got goosebumps at some moments. But I think something went wrong about the movie. It didn't give the feeling that asuran and pariyerum perumal gave after watching. BR gave exactly the review that I would give. Along with the pros he also gives the cons. Paid reviewers, they only give good reviews.

Ahh BR! 16:09 long review flatters this movie. I expected much more from Karnan especially after Mari's interview with you on Pariyerum Perumal and felt utterly disappointed. From the review, may be I was wrong, but kind of felt you were dissapointed too, and finding reasons to like the movie. :) Surprised you have mentioned about 'One story' syndrome too. Exactly what I thought while coming out of theater but opposite to your view. I thought may be Mari didn't have a story to tell beyond Pariyerum Perumal. May be that's why he was hiding the ultra thin story of Karnan behind the shots of location and all those creatures(which becomes tiresome after a while). Much like Joji, where Dileesh dwells on extra long shots of locations to distract the viewers from the story(or lack of). At least Joji was a gripping narrative, while Karnan, except for its moments, was a predictable borefest. 16 minute review can't mask it. :)

I felt movie could have started from utradheenga appov song instead of Kanda vara sollunga, bcoz Kanda vara sollunga had lot of emotions, it was eerie and was in praise of a person called karnan, With an audience who just walked and sat to watch this made very little sense , in a way I felt it more like a masala movie hero intro song, than conveying the raw emotion of karnan and the struggle he got.. also after the climax when this song was placed it would have given much more impact than now, bocz by the time the war in climax was done most of the audience had a sense of anger and heavy heart.. instead starting with utradheenga , where karanan walks with sword and rain and the whole village is preparing for something,.. so it would have given us a perspective to know why karnan is furious what is the village preparing for ! #askbr

Regarding the mention of Karnan's dad having vision of his deceased daughter not having a payoff in second half - I have a different view. If the father made him go back only on the vision of that spirit, it leaves him and Karnan only as taking her orders without making a decision themselves. However Dhanush decides on his own to go back, and he does mention that the voices of the oppressed villagers is ringing in his head. And his father decides to send him back thereby making the painful decision himself. This is what the spirit later cheers on by clapping hands. This moment is better as it is in the movie.

6:48 - Its not fair to compare Pariyerum Perumal (PP) with Karnan as is. In PP, the theme of the movie revolves around the conflicts the hero goes through. In karnan, more than dhanush, Kodiyankulam village is the hero. At the end of the movie, Mariselvaraj makes us feel we are one of the people in the village. And I would say Karnan made an impact for the audience as intense as PP.! Also you remember this is a contemporary adaptation of mahabharata. Do all characters in Mahabharata has equal importance?. You dont suggest equal importance or to have some characters removed from Mahabaratam, do you?!

Why they use the kannapiran name for the villain. I dont think mahabharata reference worked for this movie. What is the importance. I think maybe arjunan name suits the villain.

Great detailing and You have explained very well about the real goosebumps scenes... But, In my point of view you have done a mistake of usage sentence about the Movie at one place... You said that " pariyerym perumal said let us Discuss but karnan said let's kill " It's a really false and condemned statement. Karnan said that Let's make rebel for our fundamental rights .... There's a much differences.. Pls don't spread negativity...

"It will be great if you give 2 reviews for one movie. One review for the people who had watched the movie with spoilers and another review for the people who haven't watched the movie without spoilers." Most of the people watch reviews to decide whether to spend money and time on a movie or not. After few days of the movie release you could have discussed these spoilers in #AskBR section like you usually do..
