Here I made a Guide on how to Install the Kartboy Short shifter by yourself in your own garage with simple tools. If you enjoyed the video hit that like button and don't forget to subscribe :) Thanks for watching
Big old tip if you arent installi g the bushings and its just the shifter. Shift into reverse before or after hammering the lockout pin. Makes it easier to put back on and align and put the pin back in. And if you guys lose it, buy a rollpin set!
Alright. Finished this. Take way from install. I know what “C” in c-clamp means. The pin/punch out replacement can be frustrating. When a RU-vidr says remove this...some times more falls off and you have to go to the dealership to get a support bolted down correctly. You also get to meet new people. Like the mechanic at the dealership that tunes and has a side gig. Plus, it was going to cost $59 for diagnosing, but said new friend waved it off. Thanks!
Solid install man! For the heat shield, I have always unclipped the O2 sensor harness on the opposite side and went up and over with the heat shield. Those O2 sensor are a paint in the ass.
You are seriously a veteran. You’ve been doing videos for so many years now, tons of them helpful and unique. I think you mentioned you live in Utah in an old video? Is that true?
It came with the car. It’s just the OEM Cup holder insert/divider. You could probably find it on eBay for like 20 bucks. Just type in the year of the car you have and a cup holder insert and it should pop up.
Hey so I installed my Kartboy and I've been getting all kinds of crazy sounds. Basically I can hear whizzing of the drivetrain in lower gears. Then in 6th gear, when off the throttle, it sounds like there's rattling, like the lockout pin is shaking around in there. Have u had any problems?
I haven't had an issues thus far, Have you taken a closer look at the install to make sure nothing is loose or possibly touching something that it shouldn't?
hey bro! Just installed mine on my 2016 sti. im getting a weird rattle/buzzing noise from the shifter when im around 4K rpm, but stops when I put my hand on it. How do I fix that?
There is a silver plastic Piece on top of the reverse lockout that you grab and that comes loose sometimes. If that’s the case just grab some super glue and put it under neath to hold it snug and that should do the job
Really sorry for the late response but here is a link for the kit that I purchased. www.rallysportdirect.com/part/shifter-and-bushing-combos/kar-kb-001-6combo-kartboy-short-shifter-and-bushing-combo?gclid=Cj0KCQjwpreJBhDvARIsAF1_BU2LFpDY-d5Mvv8oawdJQqT0IF3sj-tZ6EOYlcu3CSnx2LrF61TIP5UaAqadEALw_wcB
@@BeeAboveAverage no worries! I already got and followed your instructions and the install was a breeze!! I only have 1800 miles in the car so the bushings were no issue as well 😂
Please help: I’m at the step where you reinstall the bolt into the new shifter, where you have to shake it back and forth until the bolt goes through on the other side. The bolt is half way in and stuck..
Did you try the Allen key trick under the car where you put it into the little hole for it to hold the shifter in place for you? Maybe that part came loose while you were putting the rod through
@@BeeAboveAverage the pin is in just fine. I mean to say the bolt that holds the shifter, where you’d normally put through and hand tight down the nut on the right side. The bolt is jammed in there and idk how.. when I try to unscrew it I see the entire tube/sleeve rotated and I can’t push or pull out the bolt.
@@BeeAboveAverage Thanks!! I'm gonna attempt the bushings tonight! Got the short shifter installed last night. Curious where from WA are you? Saw you had WA plates lol
Why did you go with Kartboy versus cobb or any other brand? I'm looking to buy an sti soon and wanting to learn as much as I can before getting the car, thanks for everything!
I have had the kartboy before and I loved it and had no issues or complaints. Whilst I’ve had friends with the Cobb one that had other experiences. And after switching they said it was the best choice they made. You will never catch your self re adjusting the shifter after the first time anyway. With Cobb you have more moving parts that can rattle or brake or loosen up over time, but with Kartboy it’s a solid shifter. Hope that helps👍🏼
I just put my shifter in while following your instructions. It went well however, I notice a ticking noise in 4th 5th and 6th nothing at idle or going slow. Anything thoughts? Thanks
Gene Oberman When I did my install the little silver trim peace on the reverse lockout became loose and started to make a rattle sound, I just super glued it down and it went away. Maybe this could be it? Besides that I’m not sure and I can ask around
@@BeeAboveAverage I noticed when in reverse it can rotate a little. Tomorrow I'm going to drive it without the trim on and listen closer. It does get louder and faster with speed. Ask around, if I find out what it is I'll let you know.
@@BeeAboveAverage that little piece at 10:42. I dont think i should be worried though bc ive been driving it like that for a couple miles, ive put it into reverse and goes in just fine. Thanks for the reply. Great video 🤘
Arnies BaeRZ Ohhh I see what you are talking about now. That piece doesn’t seem that important TBH. If the reverse lockout starts making some noise, or isn’t very smooth, than maybe just maybe it’s because of not having that piece. But I think you will be just fine without it. 👍🏼 Also appreciate the feedback man 😁
Phillip Castro This is what I purchased right here :) www.rallysportdirect.com/part/shifter-and-bushing-combos/kar-kb-001-6combo-kartboy-short-shifter-and-bushing-combo?gclid=CjwKCAjw_NX7BRA1EiwA2dpg0t2vpxa3GK8RPaPDHXH3f3Og3ZAHaCkasaNLf_zqygzkWKISmk8uKhoCOccQAvD_BwE
@@BeeAboveAverage thank you now I can install this hopefully just another question if you dont mind me asking could i do just kartboy short shifter and whiteline rearshifter bushings
@@thenormalworldofwes6656 yeah, it took a lot of trial and error. I ended up taking a break until the next day because I was so frustrated. I was able to get it figured out shortly after starting again.i love KB, but I think next time I'll go with Cobbs version of this bushing
@@thenormalworldofwes6656 dude tell me someone has a better answer this is absolutely kicking my ass right now. having to catch a ride to work tomorrow also
Omar Díaz You could buy some c clip pliers at your local auto parts store or hardware store. They shouldn’t be very expensive :) I would definitely get some of these, it would make the job that much easier and faster to do.
Omar Díaz Try to shift it into reverse like OreothePanda said and see if that works for you. Anytime I’ve installed an aftermarket shifter I have always done the bushings along with it. So I had to go under the car. But if your only doing the shifter you could possibly get it all done from inside of your car :)
Sandman20tw0 It was just the standard shifter. Even if I did have the factory short shifter I would still do this mod because it makes a big difference still :)
@@BeeAboveAverage Yeah i got a 2020 STI back in November and it has the STI short throw. Wasn't sure if it would be worth getting a different model or not.
Sandman20tw0 I work on brand new STI’s and other Subaru’s and I’ve felt the short throw and I can say that this kartboy shifter with the bushings is much better.
@@BeeAboveAverage good deal. hey while i have you here.... do the new STI's still have the same banjo bolt w/ screen filter that was causing issues on the 08' models? Tried finding it online before i tear it apart for no reason. cannot find anything on the newer models.
zeno15STI I totally forgot they had that when I was doing this install :( Hopefully it’s not too much of a pain In the ass to get it installed in the future.
@@BeeAboveAverage Yeah I've been had the kit for awhile now think , I'm going to knock it out this week. I'm going for the trifecta Katboy shifter and bushing WL tho, positive shift kit and group n trans mount. I'm pretty deep in the WL bushings ecosystem at this point. 😅
I forgot to make a video of me driving it after the install but if you would like I could still make one showcasing the shifter and how it shifts and my opinion on it ?
