I have really high hopes for a basic karting 101 playlist! Please keep going! I think this will impact the people watching the most, because usually the guys who are going on youtube and learning about karting are new and beginners, and i think this is the biggest audience, people who are more veterans will seek out help other ways usually. Thanks dez!

@@PowerRepublic oh yes. I'm taking my son 14 who's subscribed also, to track since he loves racing and want to be involved seriously. We learned a lot from you about karts. Thank you for all your works and videos. Currently we have a shifter and IAME 125cc tag kart for practicing. It's lot of fun. Keep up great work, can't wait for your new videos. 👍🙏🇺🇲✌️

Thank you so much for this and any future basic videos because these help a father like myself (the learning mechanic) to help keep track of my 8 year old son (driver) kart tuned. Another video which I think would be helpfull is on fuel/oil mixing (how-to). Alot of beginners get this wrong. Thanks for your fantastic videos 👍

Thank you for the video . For something as simple as changing a chain, I learnt something new today as I loosen the engine clamps rather than the engine slide plate .. I was concerned when I do this because it can misalign everything, creating a “fubar” situation if you are not careful. so I will try your way in future ..

Back at my days we didnt had that engine slide plate. You could set the tension with the great screw from behind. BUT: We had a broken chassis, because of this screw! The chassis manufacturer told us, to always lossen the screw after setting the tension of the chain. Today you have a big rubber and sliding engine plates. It was an expensive lesson 😉
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 3 года назад
Hey Chris. Yeah that could happen. I mean chassis crack regularly with use, but yeah I can see that extra stress would create tension in the frame.

@jaibuckley8493

Hi Wyatt, it's good habit to lube it before every session. Not too much, but some all over
@jaibuckley8493
@jaibuckley8493 3 года назад
Good to check tyre pressure, tyre wear, spark plug if tuning, any data including engine temp and lap breakdown then mechanically the chain, wheel alignment, clean and inspect brakes & that the key components are tight like engine mounts, hubs, wheels. Setup changes also as needed throughout the day depending on how your go kart is handling - mostly around grip level and fuel mixture (soft or hard chassis setup and carburettor tune).

Hey Derek, all the best to you & thanks again for all the tips & advise. 1 of the most frustrating things I find is getting chain tension right. I have 1 of those Chain Monkey thingys & maybe it's just these Arrows (X4/X5) but I can spend half an hour turning the stopper a quarter of a turn this way, then back a little, blah blah blah, what's if wouldn't mind sharing your technique please (including which bolt to tighten on slide first - front/back) I'd be eternally grateful...

I didn't see you Lube the Chain before you installed it? Also why use only three fasteners on the sprocket instead of six?
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 3 года назад
Hi Rob, correct , I do the chain lube just before I hit the track. 3 is normally enough to hold the sprocket on. and cause we change them regularly, it quicker if only 3.
@Aviopic
@Aviopic 3 года назад
For easy lubing while on track, drill a little hole in the chain guard at the rear end right above the chain where you can poke the little grease tube through.

can I use brake cleaner to clean the chain ?
@PowerRepublic

yes, but better to use WD or degreaser sprayed onto a rag, then drag the chain through the rag.
@mareksumguy1887
@mareksumguy1887 Год назад
Absolutely not! You must only use citrus based degreaser. But better yet… just leave the chain alone. They dont need cleaning or lubing. They are internally lubed.
@christianbuczko1481
@christianbuczko1481 3 года назад
Why didnt you just split the chain link??
@sandhands600
@sandhands600 3 года назад
The chains don't have one, it prevents the chain from failing under strain from the engine. That's why you have to loosen the engine to remove it.
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 3 года назад
Hey chris, yeah can get the chains in 2 link increments. if you did want to make your own, you can use a 'chain breaker' tool that pushes the pin out so you can remove the link. It can be done, just most people don't bother any more. that tool would be useful for 4SS karts.
@PowerRepublic
@PowerRepublic 3 года назад
Hey sand hands, that's correct, unlike a KZ or dirt bike chain, there isn't a removable link. if you did want to split the chain you would have to use the chain breaker tool, which isn't that popular these days
@christianbuczko1481

When you put the kart on the ground the chain will go tight and damage the bearings Plus your Weight it will even go tighter
@bm7760
@bm7760 8 месяцев назад
Disagree. On a bike you have to factor-in the swingarm such that front and rear sprocket centers and the swingarm pivot are in a straight line, then use the tightest spot as the place where you set free play. But this doesn't apply to a kart.
