Mehndi is derived from the Sanskrit word mendhikā.[1] The use of mehndi and turmericis described in the earliest Hindu Vedic ritual books. It was originally used for only women's palms and sometimes for men, but as time progressed, it was more common for men to wear it. Source :- wikipedia

I hate it when mehndi artists tell you to apply lemon to the mehndi. Or apply it on you without asking permission. Lemon makes mehndi lighter. You're not supposed to let your hands touch anything that has citric acid in it.
