One of the rare times that I have played a game before you guys. I love the twist on deck building it brings. I was super happy that an English language version finally happened.
@1:03:22 Rusty cheated by taking a card with a red box with the matriarch. Could have happened to me as well. Is sometimes difficult to remember this ;)
Interesting idea, basically a handbuilding game with all hands viewable by any player and 3 different hands per player. looks like a great game might have to try this one.
One of my favorite games. I believe the Prophet card and Grey Eminence card allows you to draw ANY card from the discard pile, including one with a parting action. That would be a reason to keep the parting action cards in your discard pile. I usually just sort them to the bottom of the discard pile for easy searching. I also made another resource tracking board and three proxy Patriarch cards for playing with five people. Just distribute two starter cards to each player. Can also use one Market Woman to each player to jumpstart the game a bit.
The Matriarch doesn't allow you to take a card with a parting action, but some of the others like the Gray Eminence that talk about taking a card from the discard don't have that same caveat text, so seems there's reason to keep those cards in the discard pile - or perhaps for ease of play, two separate piles (one for caravan-only, and one for those with parting).
This game looks a lot of fun, but I was a bit worried about the lack of variety in cards. Since the best they could do with the mini expansion was a set of rather horrible take that cards, I'm a little hesitant about the game now. Love the action selection mechanic though. It's also interesting that two of the players who took gambling approaches (in a card game that already has luck of the draw) did best. Instead I'd like to see more focus in the cards on manipulating your caravan rows to build three distinct engines, but that seems limited at least from the draws in this session.
(Though, really... that hurt him, I think. He ended up complaining about how large that caravan got, and if he had flipped over the matriarch, flipping back would have been another time through the caravan without adding a card.)
@dave: I think you could have ended the game sooner if you flipped your patriarch (4th caravan) and got the extra farmer out of the discard pile. Nice victory either way Nice game
