Haven't heard these songs in a LONG time. (Dev hasn't heard some of them at all.) We are re-experiencing them, an album at a time, with fresh perspectives and active ears, so that Dev can learn and appreciate more about Zeppelin, and so that Mike can relive his childhood.

As a 14 year old, who'd been listening to Zeppelin for a few years, when this album came out in '75 and I heard this song the first time it immediately became my favorite song. Oh to go back almost 50 years and hear it for the first time again. According to Jimmy, as he was explaining to the Edge and Jack White, this riff is just a finger exercise he played backwards. And as someone else stated not an orchestra, John Paul Jones and his magic fingers and feet on a Mellotron. Check out the live version from the O2 arena in 2006 with Jason Bonham on his father's yellow drum kit.

Hi, great reaction! The best for English speaking people to pronounce his name is [mar-cheen putt-shuw-weck]. I guess he was barely 20 when he did this. If you want to see a long cover, see Marcin's version of "Master of puppets" from Metallica. It's 'millions of notes to remember" as one vlogger described it. It's over 7 mins ling, you won't regret seeing it. Marchin was 17 or eighteen when he recorded it. He's unique for his highly percussive style of finger playing. His works are melange of classical guitar education, flamenco, good drumming and vision. Greetings from Poland, a homeland of Marcin Patrzałek, our pride.

Since Feb 1975 Kashmir grabbed my ears, mind, & soul and has never let go. Truly a masterpiece and damn Percy’s voice!!!!! Just think on the 24th this gem will be 48 years old & still gets to everyone I have ever met. They did a phenomenal performance in 2007 Celebration Day also. Simply stunning. Robert has made the statement many times Kashmir is quintessential Zep it’s his & Jimmys favorite. Robert said I strongly believe Zep would be synonymous with Kashmir if only that little ditty come along a few years earlier. I just love him and his humor. Thank you Dev & Mike for all the work you do. You are tremendously appreciated

Wow Dev is spot on with her observations here. Zeppelin are just a titanic, transcendent band. The way I've started thinking about recently is this - just think, they gave the world four monumental albums, including world changing tunes like SIBLY, Immigrant Song, Levee Breaks, Whole Lotta Love, and Stairway. And even if you discount HOTH, then along comes Physical Graffiti and album one alone gives us In My Time of Dying, Trampled, The Rover, and this epic. It's truly mind-blowing, to live through that time must have been sheer ecstasy. No wonder Zeppelin continue to be so passionately appreciated by so many.

Not sure if you guys have already reviewed it but their version of Kashmir on the celebration day concert is out-of-this-world with John Bonham's son on drums and the other 3 tigether once again. The video and sound production was unbelievable... probably the best video ever made of Kashmir....with these 3 guys in their sixties playing it it was recorded in 2007 at the O2 Arena London. Plants voice is absolutely still awesome

This is a monstrous , monumental song. Jimmy Page always said this was the ultimate Zeppelin song because no one member stood out...they were all equally shining. It is the Tyrannosaurus Rex of all rock songs. Never matched and never will be. Bonham's drums are hypnotizing and thunderous. Plant's scream clocks in at 15 seconds ( I think ) .

Kashmir is Zeppelin's seminal work. There were great riffs before Kashmir; Page previously used the DADGAD tuning, and Friends pre-dates this song's eastern influence, but here is where everything comes together. This is a complex, serious composition. Kashmir forced critics to re-think the arc of the band and how their arrangements and Plant's lyrics matured. Enjoyed the reaction and, as always, very glad to see the interesting covers you guys always seem to find.

I heard this song for the first time February 4, 1975 at the Nassau Coliseum. A month or so before it was released on the album. All of us were like what the hell was that?! We were quite aware that it was different than anything we had heard before whether from Zeppelin or anyone else. A masterpiece. And as far as I’m concerned, completes the trilogy of the three songs that give you everything you’d ever want to know about Zeppelin. Whole Lotta Love, Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir.… Blues-based hard rock riffing… light and heavy with Celtic influence… and eastern influence… yeah!

Re the Puff Daddy cover. I think it was on SNL, but Jimmy Page was playing guitar in a live performance, onstage with ("Puff"? "Daddy"?) the guy as he was performing the cover. At the end Puff did have the good graciousness to do the "I'm not worthy" Wayne's World Bow to Jimmy, so I gave him props for that! That dude you showed--however old, right?--playing this on acoustic guitar was awesome! "The Main Squeeze" has a great cover of this epic masterpiece as well!

Coincidentally(?), last night I dreamed of an opening to a song. It was about 30 seconds long, and it was EPIC. It was interesting and unique and featured a massive bass part that sped up towards the end. BUT, I'm not a musician. AND, even worse, I woke up too fast and lost most of the memory of the specifics of the song. So, this great piece (which I'm sure could have been easily turned into a full song). is lost in the ether. Anyway, please, the next time you are going down the road, and don't hear 'my song', remember to think of my epic song ....

I think he thinks it's overhyped or something, I never really pressed him on it (I don't love "Four Sticks," myself--Robert's nasally voice, maybe?). MY liking for it has grown thru the decades, however, especially for Bonzo's drumming. I can't explain it in text, but JPJ's keyboards are lacking a BIT--otherwise, "perfect Zeppelin"!
