Katatonia - Brave (Reaction/Review) This was completely different from"July" not what we expected 

Thank you all For the comments about Mikael from Opeth! When I was going through this with the editing process I swore it sounded exactly like him and thought this was very Opeth sounding.

I first heard this about 25 years ago now. Still great. Opeth got me into Katatonia.

I love this song!!! The whole album is just magnificent They only did this style with death growls for a couple of albums but it’s my favourite era of their material This album also has the excellent song Day which is more low key and clean… I can highly recommend that one

Now you have to go even further back to their first album from 1992 which is a doom masterpiece. It’s with Jonas Renkse, original and current singer, on vocals. Why Åkerfeldt stepped in on this record and following EP was because of Renkse’s sore vocal cords if I’m not mistaken. I would suggest Gateways to Bereavment. Awesome! More melodies and more different sections. That goes for that whole record.

They used the Boss HM-2 pedal for the rhythm tone. It was the classic Swedish death metal pedal

Like Opeth they have evolved their music very much tru the years. I suggest you pick a song from a newer album aswell to compare it to the more doomy heavy sound they go by now. Author from their latest album is awesome.

you need to listen to "end time" from Katatonia, all the heavy and black mattal from this but 10 times better!!!

I had really confused feelings when the first Katatonia stuff I listened to was July and their newest album from this year and I liked it, then I listened to this and liked it too. Not sure what I want this band to be.
