Notice how when she asks if he would ever do something like this again (a prank call, which they love doing), he completely dodges the question, not saying yes or no.

If he was put on the spot, he'd say no. The thing is that he spends all his time avoiding culpability. If it were me in that situation, and I had done this, I'd put my hand up and say 'me and my co-worker were crooks. we were indirectly responsible for her death. this was our fault'. At least, I hope I'd say that.

Mel Greig justified her prank call by saying, they get permission to air the prank after the event, thus making everyone agreeable. She then failed to remind everyone, this was "live" and no permission was requested. Also, imagine if they actually got through to Kate.

In America they would have been jailed or at least fined for the act itself. Period. It is illegal to try to obtain access to someone or their medical information not only under false pretense, but simply being nosie as well. I think she (Meghan?) May be genuine here. This guy is scrambling for excuses. “Other prank calls have been made for decades”, “No one could have predicted this.” No shyt! But that doesn’t excuse it. Pranks are one thing when it is your friends, but pranking strangers opens the door for any and every possibility. Just bc you thought you would be hung up on doesn’t make it ok. This is bullying, plain and simple. If you ask yourself before you do something like this “What is the worst Case scenario?” And the answer is anything other than laughter and enjoyment for all involved, don’t damn do it! At the very least they should have suspected anyone who took them seriously could have been fired or reprimanded. And that should be reason enough not to do it. And if the pretense is, “Well we thought this was so ridiculous [uh victim shaming!] that no one would take us seriously, then why did you not hang up when you realized you had been taken seriously? No excuse for this. None, period.
@ebonyloveivory

Precisely! Also this was potentially putting people's jobs and livelihoods on the line. I don't see the humour in this and I don't understand why they didn't hang up the line themselves if they didn't expect to get through in the first place. They clearly wanted to see how far they could take it.

Actually, it’s not. It’s illegal for a person to release personal information, like medical records, but it is not illegal for a person to inquire about private medical records. If it were illegal, then every friend & distant family member who calls a hospital to ask about a relative would be arrested.

@@FinnMiaBelle There's a significant difference in these situations. In one case, a person is truthfully trying to gain medical records that they incorrectly believed they were entitled to. In the second case, a person is fraudulently impersonating someone they are not in order to gain those medical records. The person in the first case is making an innocent mistake, the second is maliciously and fraudulently trying to get something which they know (or reasonably ought to know) that they have no right to. Doing the second is, in fact, illegal.

"never meant to hurt anyone" How did they know how it would have affected her after a long night shift in early hours with British hospital staff stretched. "accents were terrible" English may not have been the nurses first accent and there was no receptionist at night so how was the nurse meant to know how to deal with the call. Just a few thoughts of mine.

''I just do not get it!.'' In the UK Nurses have a strict code of honour to protect patient confidentiality. It is the first thing they teach all students. It is there first prioratory. - On top of this, this nurse was humitated in front of the world, to her peers and family. She felt that she had failed to protect a patient but also one whom she most admired. She's from a culture that is different from ours, one where personal honour still means something.

You’re missing the mark here. She is saying she “doesn’t get it” because this nurse that allegedly committed suicide, was only the nurse who transferred the call to Kate’s actual nurse. This woman who allegedly killed herself didn’t release any sort of information. She did not talk to anyone about Kate’s condition or anything to do with Kate. All she did was transfer a damn call. So, how does this woman end up dead? The logic that she was ashamed doesn’t really hold water here, because she wasn’t the one who delved into Kate’s medical history via the prank phone call. Again, she only transferred the call. So, why or how could this woman feel so ashamed to the point where she kills herself, when she wasn’t the nurse who released Kate’s personal information? It just doesn’t make sense.

Well, which is it? Did the radio hosts cause her to kill herself? Or was she murdered? Lol. I advise anyone interested in this case to really research the facts, because the woman who allegedly killed herself only transferred the call to Kate’s actual private nurse. She did not speak to the radio hosts about Kate or her condition at all. The nurse she transferred the call to was the one who actually spoke on Kate’s condition and inadvertently released Kate’s private medical information. So, why was this woman so ashamed enough to kill herself, if she wasn’t the one who actually released the medical information to the radio hosts? All she did was transfer a call......it doesn’t make sense!

I accept what they say that they never thought it would go this far. Mrs Saldanha had a history of mental health issues, and it sounds like she shouldn't have been in that situation at all. It’s typical of healthcare that they're so engrossed in caring for the patients that the nurses aren't looking after each other or themselves properly. I'm sure police files all over the world are full of childish pranks which have gone horribly wrong.

@NoSoup4U2
@NoSoup4U2 6 лет назад
The DJ's very poor attempt at impersonating the Queen & Prince Charles was bad, in several ways, I'll agree, but have you listened to that hoax call? The nurse who initially answered the call, who's also the one that, sadly, took her own life, never was informed of who was asking about Kate. The female DJ barely managed to get in, that she's the grandmother & from how quickly you hear the line being put on hold or reconnected, I believe that nurse never even hear the DJ mutter that, because her ear was no longer against the phone. I think the poor nurse was preoccupied. Of course that's all speculation on my part. Now as I see it, if it was the 2nd nurse, the one that talked at length, had killed herself, I can see that being very serious, and possibly even being some kind of criminally negligent for that nurses death. But here's what we do NOT know Americanhoney. What we don't know is why would a nurse who spoke to impersonators for less than 5 seconds, want to kill herself? That makes no sense at all! The cause does not justify her actions. Even according to the law, there is really, no direct, OR indirect link that would associate her death with that call. You also said state that it is HIGHLY illegal to hoax medical staff into giving an impersonator updates on someone's well being who's presently in hospital. Though it can be seen as "morally wrong", it is NOT illegal, unless there's intent to commit a crime, like identity theft, or to commit fraud or to steal things like money and legal documents, ie: Information shared by that person's lawyer, or to impersonate a police officer. Here is part of that legal argument here: With the exception of the specific offences of impersonating a law enforcement officer (and also a lawyer!), it is not unlawful to impersonate someone per se, however, it is very difficult to impersonate someone without then going on to commit another offence (either civil or criminal). I looked into the legality of gaining "private information" not to be mistaken for "medical information" via pretending to that person's Mother, Father, relative....etc, and there is NOTHING illegal there. It can be said that it's a moral low blow, but there's nothing criminal about asking how someone is doing, in recovery or ICU at a hospital. It would be up to the medical staff to be trained at proper screening to prevent this very minor type of infringement, but even then, it's still very difficult to prevent. HOWEVER....back to this 5 second nurse Americanhoney.....Did you ever see her family that made a Press Statement? I looked carefully into her husbands eyes, trying to get some kind of feel about him. By listening to him, he was stern, direct and was "a matter of fact" kind of guy. What I didn't see, that I felt was genuine, was a sense of grief, or loss. I'm not sure if they were East Indian, or Pakistan, but what I do know is, that culture produces an awful lot of overbearing, dominating, jealous, controlling, and even violent men. Women can have an extremely tough life over there. I know that sounds really bad to say, and probably it's "politically incorrect" to say too. But if I'm a cop investigating a suicide, I would most certainly gather all the facts that are available, but as most homicide investigators do, one of their first suspects is almost always, the husband. I know I've been long-winded here, & probably still will be...LOL, but I am very confident when I say, there is much more to that poor ladies suicide than what we "REALLY KNOW". I would love to spend some time talking with all of her immediate family members, as well as close friends, and the people she worked with too. I can NOT justify someone killing themselves, who I think was just a reception operator, for something as meager as passing someone through to another Nurse/Nursing Station. That 2nd Nurse, I think, broke hospital protocol and it's possible she was disciplined, & could of been fired too, for dereliction of duty, not following hospital procedure, and definitely for not properly screening callers, if, the hospital even has such a policy in the first place!! I say an interview with that lady DJ though, and I learned they've made tons of hoax calls like that in the past. But since my trust is well below zero when it has anything to do with today's media, which I suspect, took little to no concrete information, twisted it to their own narrative, strictly for ratings of course, (as we've heard a 1000 times before), then ran with it, not caring one way or another, on who would, or who could be seriously affected, emotionally damaged, or ruined in more ways than one, down the road some day. While watching that female DJ's interview, anyone could easily tell, this was destroying her. To me, any amount of guilty the media built up and threw at her, is so so wrong. No way would I let her think this was all because of anything she did. I'm sorry for saying this, but I think you are wrong with your thoughts on all this Americanhoney. This was a crazy funny stunt, and if you heard it, you would of thought so too. There was ZERO harm done by either nurse, since neither gave any real major or private information in the first place! I can see the DJ suing her employer, and quite possibly even the media for all the BS they've got the masses thinking of her now. To me, THAT IS ALL WRONG! I know there's a lost life somehow tossed into the mix of all this, and I too find that said. But I also feel that this poor DJ could be emotionally destroyed, the rest of her life because of all this media hipe and media BS too! I do NOT believe she could of ever imagined a life would be lost, for something as insignificant as what she did. If I'm completely alone in my thoughts, then so be it! A living life lost, a lost soul, is just as tragic as someone's death, in my mind! My heart goes out to her, as much as it goes out to the dead nurse, because my gut instinct tells me, she lead a very depressed life...a lost life, as I've put it, as well. My thoughts go out to that nurses children as well. For me, there is way way more to that poor ladies death, then we are likely to ever know. I hate to say it, but did anyone look into this ladies mental state, or her long term stability? That is something I am positive that would of been a requirement, to do as well. This happened, what, 5yrs ago? I never did hear if anyone was criminally charged with a crime, because no crime was committed. Personal lawsuits are quite possible, but if I was the judge at one of those civil proceedings, I would be extremely hard pressed to hold anyone accountable for her death, unless there was evidence of financial, personal, or family issues, like domestic issues.....NO? But, as always, that's just my opinion! **NOTE: I had no time to proofread, so I'll apologize now, for any typos, misspells, or grammar errors too!

Like nursing s aren't stressed out enough. Cranking a hospital is no joke. I worked in a doctors office and the managers boyfriend constantly crank called. It took away from actual patients needing attention. They put them in a bad spot because the nurse would be pressured to give out patient confidentiality. They could have made people loose their job. I'm sure they didn't think someone would kill themselves but they were putting people's jobs on ththe line.

Of course it was/is not their fault that the lady killed herself. It was/is their fault that they "hurt" the lady by the prank, but *killing* herself is *not* on them, *not in the least.* When people do way worse things, for example rape you multiple times, kill your whole family, make your body so sick that the pain is completely unbareble, *it is* the fault of the one who does that to you, that you kill yourself, *if* you kill yourself *in such a case. NOT* because of a prank. I *DO* empathize with the lady, she must have felt bullied by a whole lot of people during a couple of days, and I wish the hospital cared for the lady emotionally, I wish they gave her emotional support and love by telling her a lot how much they appreciated her and how they did not perceive it as *her* fault, but *only* as the fault of these pranksters, and how this situation was good in one way, because this incident WITHOUT *ANY* damage at all other than the hurt of this nurse('s feelings) teached her VERY well to be VERY cautious in the future, while if it would not have happend, it may have happend at another moment *WITH* actual *DAMAGE.* SO, PERCEPTION OF THE SITUATION IS VERY IMPORTANT, AND SHE DESERVED TO BE, AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN, CARED FOR! Her husband and children deserve ALL the consolation, love, future luck and hapiness IN THE WORLD, just as Jacintha did. 😘❤‍🩹❤🙏 I wish the hospital has learned what they did wrong: how they neglected the lady who needed and deserved the emotional support in these circumstances like oxygen, *BUT* I have not a lot of faith nor trust in them ...

The nurse who killed herself is a selfish idiot. She has left 2 kids behind & turned a silly harmless prank into a suicide. The hospital wasn't going to discipline her, the royals weren't pressing any charges & yet this nurse decided to end her life, ridiculous. I don't blame the DJ's they were obvious it was a prank, their conscience should be clear.

everyone keep saying it was a joke ok so it was but put yourself in the eyes of the nurse we r surpose to love this country and our royal family the nurse did and was doing what anyone else would do a lot of people in the past have done this stop blaming the nurse a lot of people would had done the same thing the dj are to blame for this they new it was the royals and they also know how much we love the royals this prank should never had happened i will always blame the djs for this and i think the djs should be where the nurse is in a grave if i had my way they would be and i know a lot of people who feel the same

its just a prank gone fataly wrong, the 2 DJs dont deserve to be prosecuted, they had no idea this would happen, its sad and no one should forget the familiy of jacintha, theyre the victims now, but with all the legal wranglings this case will go on and on when really common sense should come 1st.

impressionist like rory bremner,john caultard and plenty of others have all done the same and done prank calls to famous people and nothing is said....these two do it and because the woman on the other end goes to the extreme its not their fault. perhaps they need to look into her past and see if there was any unstable signs or what could lead to this.....an everyday person would just get on with life..

I don't blame them, it's a terrible thing that happened but who could have predicted it? If they were being rude and nasty to the nurse (whilst pretending to be the royal family) i may feel differently, but they were only enquiring as to kates health, in a funny accent. A problem is that working nights can have an adverse affect on a persons psyche. Night workers deserve better conditions. One week on, two weeks off. So they work less hours than day workers, but get equivalent pay.

In some ways I feel sorry for the 2 DJs as it was a prank which went wrong but this could of been the tipping point that the nurse needed to top herself. She must of been desperate to do that, especially when she had children. I don't think it was just the phone call hoax which made her do what she did. I just hope that the nurses family are being supported & also prince William & Kate are on too as this must of been devastated to. Xx

I hope the 2 DJs are able to move on & not be constantly reminded and witch hunted down for this as they only had a very small part to play in this sad sad story. The public has to understand that there must of been more going on in the nurses life for her to go & do what she did. I don't believe she done it just over a hoax call. My thoughts & prays are with the family, especially the children. Xxx

It was poor judgment to make that call, but the woman's death is not their fault. The person who bears the most responsibilty is the woman who took her own life, knowing that she would leave her children motherless. Her circumstances and the people in her life played a part. The call, and her mistake, may have been the tipping point, yet if not the call then it could have been something else. She may have just been at a critical point.We don't know what others go through.Our words are important.

Look, these two radio hosts should not feel so guilty. It was a prank and any normal person would never have taken them seriously. I mean how could they predict that the nurse that answered the phone was "off" mentally to begin with? or that she could not recognize a false British accent? Besides, a nurse should never, ever give confidential information like that over the phone. It's a violation of every basic procedure in healthcare. So some say that she was in a different culture and her training taught her to never question authority. To me she just obviously wanted to be helpful as she was starstruck, so the perfect storm of errors made her thinking processes off. She also had money problems which wad the straw that broke it all down for her, as she wanted them to pay her mortgage! Those were amonst her last thoughts in the suicide note. Earth to nurse, that's not normal. Ok so there's no way these two hosts could have ever known they were speaking to an unhinged individual. From my chair they should feel no responsibility for the nurse taking her own life as it was her own decision based upon her mental state, her cash problems, her fears, her failures. It was was over the top compared to the prank. What gets me is that the radio hosts didn't have had that "bolt of lightning" realization that they were dealing with too much too fast after the second nurse started talking too freely. One cannot play with fire when it comes to the royals. They should've fessed up to the nurse and not aired this.
