This was on the soundtrack tonight to November Christmas on Hallmark Hall of Fame. I thought it was so beautiful and searched from the last line on Google and found it here. Exceptional and gorgeous singing.
I am sitting here in me chair, blubbering away like a bady. This song and Kate's voice and presentation are so beautiful. No words, there are angels among us,
Her beautiful voice is unique. Most of the female screamers today leave me totally cold, but this lady sings from the heart. Sadly, this February 2021 and England is locked down, but this singer has warmed me so much, I do hope she is safe and well.
So, so beautiful. Ranzo Ray. My dad sailed away two years ago and I have searched for him everywhere in the whole wide world, and I had to accept that he is right here in my heart, and nowhere else to be found. I miss you, dad.
About four years ago, this song saved my sanity. Haunting, beautiful, defiant, melodic; something in all of that gave my soul a tired strength that wouldn't quit during the hardest time of my life...
As an almost lifelong musician, I am so touched by this song, and especially Kate Rusby's presentation of it. Wow! What a precious tune. It puts me at ease every time I hear it. Thanks, Kate!
No country seems to love their great artist as much as England. Loving this lady comes easy. She's so sweet. We would all love to have Kate for a sister.
netwitch56 When are you three going to get it? When are you going to step outside your narrow little egos? We're all entitled to our taste. I like Kate Rusby, but that doesn't make me somehow 'right' and other people 'wrong.' It's the sort of attitude that drives most of what's bad in the world.
What a delight, the purity of Kate's voice, and the heartfelt simplicity of the playing, which beautifully accompanies Kate's heart-filled, evocative voice.
I grew up on the other side of the Atlantic, but Kate's renditions of these old English ballads gives m the chills. I'd love to see her perform in the Pacific Northwest.
Not a dry eye in the house when this song played in November Christmas....beautifully done....awesome scenery.....just a magnificent song to sit back, close your eyes and think about life and of those who have gone before you
the first time i heard this album i cried for 20 minutes! love her, love all her albums, have seen her once or twice around south yorkshire (but im way too chicken to say hi!)
Like others here I watched the movie November Christmas and there in the middle of this movie is this beautiful piece of work. Heartbreaker of a song. I don’t honestly know what the song has to do with the movie although I am sure I could find some kind of connection or maybe I am just thick and missed it. But I am so very glad they used it. I love old folk music and I love what she did with this. Just beautiful. What a lovely voice she has.
I just ordered SLEEPLESS from Amazon....After playing and singing thru the song initially I feel very peaceful , blessed and thankful to you, Kate ...and the other 2 gents...I play violin as well as guitar and loved all 3 instruments...
Guess I will join the other fans here to say how much I enjoyed the movie AND esp. this song. I will have to listen to more of Kate's work. Brovo Kate, great job!!!!
Beautiful voice from Yorkshire, where I lived 1979-2009 and saw Kate in concert. We need more of her original sourced material. Peter Turner, Staffordshire.,
Kate was great last night in High Wycombe. Just Yorkshire carols and stuff off the new album. the perfect introduction to the Christmas season. She looked very happy playing beside her partner, despite the winter sniffles, and told several stories about Doris their dog and Daisy their daughter.
I found this thru my subscription to RobinTurnerMusic's channel and have been spellbound ever since...she is a rare find for sure and unfortunately, relatively unknown in the states [I'm sorry to say] as we have performers who are super famous that can't compare...I'm just thrilled to have found this treasure!!!
Love this song ... heard it first in the movie November Christmas. And then upon searching for it, found you and all the other great music you've published. Thanks for sharing.
I don't know Kate Rusby's music well, but I'm going to be paying more attention to her. I love this song. I love all the instruments and and the playing of them. I love her voice. I love her accent (who doesn't love an Irish/British accent?). It's clean and pure music, both simple and complex. It's absolutely beautiful.
Just listen to this song so many times that I am somewhere in another world. There are those songs that speak to your heart and some that speak to your sole but seldom are there songs that speak to, hug and take over both. More tears flowed from eyes then have in years, Must be my Shir heritage tugging me home.
She is incredible I would love to sit and listen to her for hours and have a few pints . Kate please come to America Boston MA You would draw a huge crowd ... jd
I already have one album and just heard this track on the film November Christmas, so I'm going to buy that album too. You can't beat good English Folk. Alphasun/Sandymount Songs
Don't be ridiculous there is nothing remotely Irish in the chords, melody or lyric. Stop trying to claim all folk music, England has a rich and ancient history of folk and traditional music reaching back to the 12th century, unlike much Irish folk music which dates no earlier than the 1920's when De Valera set about creating a 'culture' for the 'new'/'ancient' Eire. The fields of Athenry is an example of 'traditional' Irish folk written in the 1970s.
This is a wonderful song! I must admit that real wild geese are a pest in my town, but in songs they are not real geese but symbolic birds. So I really love this song anyway. A very nice accompaniment as well.
Music is art and art is no competition. If you want competition, go watch sports. Why do some people always have to put people down to make others look beter ? I have thousands of records and both Lou Reed and Kate Rusby are part of the collection. An open mind makes brighter days... (besides : i'd rather hang out with Kate than with Lou, but that has nothing to do with the music)
@MrsFiddlePlayer The movie is also played here on RU-vid! Some kind soul broke it into 15 minutes segments.. True about Sam Elliott -- he was totally brilliant in this touching movie.....
If you want your very own copy of this track, get the Live in Leeds DVD which is brilliant, and you will also see the great guys supporting her. Now she has another great band, but don`t expect Kate to stand still she is not singing her "best of Kate Rusby" just yet she is , Halifax 14th May, nothing left of the Leeds Gig, no,no,no she is out there with wonderful new material complimented by the new bloke in her life who plays guitar and Banjo in the new look band. She is so good
