@urbanpioneer8148 that Pittsburgh series was a good one, though. Many of the Flyers players were playing hurt. I'm a a Pens fan, but I respect their gutsiness and taking it to 6 games. As far as that '16 series against the Caps goes, the Flyers were even in that one as well. It didn't seem like it in the beginning, but they damn well could have taken it to 7 games if they had just been able to score in Game 6. One goal was enough for Washington to move on and get beat by the Penguins in the next round.
I remember standing up with hand-on-heart for the daily Pledge of Allegiance in grammar school in the 1960s. I wonder if they even have American flags in our schools these days! There is so much good to be said of this moment, one of the best in hockey history. I watched it live on television and it was incredible then, as it is now in watching it once more. When the fans present at the Molson Centre in Montreal once booed the American national anthem, I a Canadian, was disgusted and remain so. Kate personified the greatness of the American spirit. What a nation ! What a people!
I was there. In this video, you can hear Kate's voice all the way to the end, because the microphone was picking up her voice for the recording. In the stands, you could barely hear her during the last 10 seconds or so, because the crowd cheering was so loud. The Spectrum was a great place.
And if you stay to the end, both Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito of the Boston Bruins come up and shake Kate Smith's hand. Brilliant. Even the Canadian players are moved.
