I came across Kate Wolf through Nanci Griffith's version of Across the great divide but this song by Kate Wolf is about the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. Such a mellow, pure voice. Pass the tissues.
I first heard Kate over 30 years ago and nothing has changed, She still moves me like no other, apart from Nanci at her peak, until I discovered Carmen Monarcha, a Brazilian opera singer a couple of years ago, and her interpretations of O Mio Babbino Caro and Ave Maria have the same effect. I thought only Maria Callas singing Caro did it for me but no longer!
Listen to song bird by Eva Cassidy .... You'll be hooked. she died way to early also. It seems the great ones always do ..... my point? ...lady gaga will probably be around for a millennium.
flatroader Yes, I have Eva singing Song Bird, and it's lovely. I am listening to Kate singing Close To You as I write this, and it is hard not to choke back the tears really as it is so beautiful, and nobody I speak to even knows her! That's life I guess.
***** Every year they have a Kate Wolf festival out in California. I've been meaning to go but, either I forget or something comes up. Another one of her song I really like "An unfinished life" for the reason ... she never got to finish her life. It doesn't bother me when someone doesn't know about Kate Wolf ....A lot of the singers I like are either of my generation, an Independent (indie) artist or cult type following. So people like us are blessed to have the insight to vary away from the norm or the top 40. I think it was a Frost poem about "Two paths diverge ....and I took the one less followed and it made all the difference" As far as the tears I find this helpful ""A poem or a song contain words we all know......but the order is which they are placed is what makes us laugh or cry..... remember or forget .....dream or face reality." Think Happy,
flatroader Nanci Griffith is another artist who never got world fame despite her enormous talent and extraordinary soprano voice. Classical soprano Carmen Monarcha is the most charismatic of performers and has a gorgeous voice and is very beautiful too, and she has yet to receive world acclaim, but I have real hopes for her.
***** The 2 songs she did on later with JUles holland .... across the great divide and a john prine song , faster than the speed of loneliness. So many good ones out there ..Nana Mouscouri real big when I was with my gf in europe way back. Patty Griffin, Ray Lamontagne, a new guy Jason Isbel, Most haven't heard of Leonard Cohen ....I saw him perform in Balto. md. on his last tour. As long as I keep on my quest for the path less traveled ...that makes me unique.
If someone is a Christian and follows his teachings .... The Bible says "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" The Soul never dies. God Bless you.
